About this listen
GIRLCRUSH is a dark feminist retelling of Jekyll & Hyde by bestselling author Florence Given.
In Given's debut novel, we follow Eartha on a wild, weird and seductive modern-day exploration as she commences life as an openly bisexual woman whilst also becoming a viral sensation on Wonderland, a social media app where people project their dream selves online.
The distance between her online and offline self grows further and further apart until something dark happens that leads her into total self-destruction, forcing Eartha to make a choice; which version of herself should she kill off?

loved it!
Super engaging from start to finish. As I got into it, I told more and more people about it and recommended it to them.

Alright for a trashy listen. Not great.
It’s very trite story and the writer doesn’t have good prose. The only thing that kept me going was the narrator had a good handle on accents and delivery. I think if I was 15 I would’ve probably loved this book.

bloody brilliant!
I absolutely adore this audiobook, I couldn't keep listening to it and I finished it in three days!! I had the same boyfriend problems but thankfully after I told my friends what was going on it was able to stop :) and dumped! it's so relatable, if you haven't read Florence given's other book 'women don't owe you pretty' go read now. I would also love for there to be more of an ending with Rose and Eartha but I guess that friendship has pretty much ended.

Some sparkling moments <3
The first half of the book is truly excellent. A range of great characters, relatable situations and an exploration of queerness in friendships and relationships. There are a lot of empowering and rallying messages in here that can feel like a real game changer to apply to yourself.
The second half seems to lose its way a little bit and I was left wishing the set up of those enticing initial characters would have been more of a focus in balance with the broader theme of the book looking at the impacts of social media.

Highly anticipated
I was really looking forward to this book as a big fan of Florence Given. I really enjoyed the first 3/4! It was laugh out loud funny, sexy and an enjoyable listen. I found the last 1/4 hard to follow at times, I don’t want to write any spoilers, so I will just say I think the chaotic nature of this part was reflective of Eartha’s life at that time. I sort of get it, sort of don’t. It addresses hugely important issues and perhaps it’s my lack of knowledge on the themes that made the ending a bit confusing for me. I was left wishing there were more answers.

alright
It's a little naive and frivolous but nice to have queer stories shared. perhaps better for a younger demographic than myself.
