Wonderful!
Having recently visited Dickens’ house/museum in Bloomsbury, I was inspired to listen to some of his work. I’d forgotten just how wonderful Dickens as the spoken word can be. Dickens’ lecturn is in the museum and Peter Batchelor as narrator has the sonorous gravitas that the great man must have had. I’m inspired to listen to all the rest of peter’s narrations. I can not recommend too highly.....

Amazing and engrossing.
Quite simply dear audio 'readers' this is one simply engrossing version of the much loved tale from Dickens himself. There is very little to say other than out of all I have listened to, this one was by far the best. I do hop you will give this version a chance. You will be extremely pleased you did! Yours truly - Indie.

Fantastic story let down by audio issues
Fantastic story. 5 stars no question.
Audio issues were disappointing though. Firstly, there were several times when parts of the narration were repeated - once for at least 15 minutes. Secondly, the audio quality and volume were inconsistent. Finally, I was surprised to hear the narrator mispronounce several words as well as get the tone of some utterances wrong, showing a lack of familiarity with the material.

Great Expectations
Loved it, absolutely stunned by how much. My fist novel by Charles Dickens and love everything about the whole book.
Great narration and fantastic over 3 parts. Pips' journey is wonderful and interesting. I love Jo and the aged, the language and have already selected a second book by this author.
I purchased this book a year ago and am so glad I did, and have had a truly remarkable experience exceeding all my expectations and initially they were not great!
I am certainly recommending this great book, and the adventure. A happy bunny having this book.

narration matched era
For me the narration lacked empathy, vitality and pace but I guess it was in keeping with the Dickens era.

Technically flawed version - Avoid!
Unfortunately this version is almost useless. The recording level is so quiet, that even with the volume turned up full, it is difficult to hear it, if there is background noise (I listen to audiobooks on the treadmill and in the car - in both cases, parts of the book were INaudible). The recording volume is inconsistent throughout, so that one chapter can be of an almost acceptable level and the very next one so quiet, that it is hard to make out. This alone would suffice to damn this recording in my view, though the reading is good enough (without it being spectacular in any way, though).
However, this version adds insult to injury: Most of chapter 52 is missing. After three paragraphs, the recording suddenly mutes and only resumes again at the beginning of the next chapter. Were this an amateur recording, that might be excusable, but not for an audiobook sold on this platform.
Avoid this one and get Martin Jarvis, who is an excellent reader and does, I am sure, a great job of Great Expectations.

poor narrator..
I am sure this is a great story, trouble is I couldn't hear the story as the narrator for this book is awful .. I listened to this book in the car however couldn't listen as the narrators voice kept drifting into speech that couldn't be understood, I have player many books in this way without a problem.. a real disappointment..
