About this listen

Following the international No 1 bestsellers Mercy and Disgrace, Guilt is the fourth heart-stopping Department Q novel from Jussi Adler-Olsen, and a gripping treat for all fans of the Scandinavian crime thriller.

1987. Nete Rosen thought she'd put her traumatic youth behind her. Her caring foster parents and loving husband helped her start again. However, when a man from her past reappears one night, Nete's new life could be shattered. But she won't be drawn back into that nightmare - she won't be a victim again...

2010. Detective Carl M'rck from Copenhagen's cold case division is looking into the disappearance of Rita Nielsen, an escort agency owner. The investigation reveals that Rita is only one piece of the puzzle. Because this is not a one-off incident - but part of a disturbing pattern which has been hidden from prying eyes for over twenty years...

Jussi Adler-Olsen was born in Copenhagen and worked as a magazine editor and publisher before starting to write fiction. Mercy and Disgrace are the first two in currently four novels in the Department Q series. He holds the prestigious Glass Key Award, given annually for a crime novel by a Scandinavian author, and is also winner of the Golden Laurels, Denmark's highest literary accolade.

Good, not great

Not great

This story was rather disturbing to me and I found myself waiting for t particular chapters to end. I am not squeamish as all books by this author are rather gory and brutal.
The penultimate chapter tends to end with both heroes being in a seemingly impossible predicament to escape from. The first book had me peetering on the edge of such excitement as to warrant me incapable of movement. The second book had a similar effect. The third book I was expectant of what the last two chapters would bring and unfortunately I was rather nonchalant as I knew Carl would escape and Assad would survive as they are both the heroes of all the books written by this author.
I may not read the next few books by this author for a while.

Another extraordinarily well-crafted Adler-Olsen book

Steven Pacey is nothing short of brilliant in his narration of this unsurprisingly intelligent and compelling book! Audible books are a craft unto themselves and the narration can often undermine the positive elements of the work. Just the opposite is true here. As with all the Adler-Olsen/Pacey books I've heard, this one is gripping to the end. The characters are complex and well-developed and the storyline itself is nuanced and enthralling. The people, places and events all take on a reality with Pacey's dramatic skills with Adler-Olsen's words. So impressive it makes you want to write a review.

Excellent as usual from this series

Great characters and intriguing plot lines with a generous helping of humour. Steven Pacey’s narration is wonderful too. Can’t wait for the next one.

best yet....

This is my fourth book in the department Q series and it's the best yet. The characters, Carl, Assad and Rose all come to life thanks to the brilliant voice of Steven Pacey. Great story that's both serious and very funny had me captivated 'til the end. I'd give it more than 5 stars for Steven Pacey alone. Highly recommended

loving this series!

This is book 4 for me and I'm loving them. What tickles me are the variety of accents used by the narrator. very amusing to hear a brummie a scot liverpudlian you name it its in there. In a Danish book! not sure why but doesn't detract. Carl is quite a character and love ashad! intriguing! on to hook 5 now.
