About this listen

It's 1960s London, and spy Joe Wilderness should be living like James Bond. But alas, in the wake of an embarrassing disaster for MI6, Wilderness has been posted to remote northern Finland in a cultural exchange program to promote Britain abroad.

Bored and with nothing to spy on, he strikes a deal with his old KGB pal Kostya to smuggle vodka into the USSR - but there is something fishy about Kostya's sudden appearance. Could it be connected to cobalt mining, a critical component in atomic bomb casings? Wilderness's posting is getting more interesting, but more dangerous too....

good story, very well read

this is a great story, well balanced, well read. I was laughing out loud at some points, the humour is beautifully dry, just great. well worth reading.

Great fun

I love this series of books. Genuinely well researched political history alongside laugh out loud moments and peanut butter. Everyone is a crook and the women have the brains!

Nice yarn, shame there’s no ending

Easy to get past the fact that there are over 200 chapters and not get distracted by the calculation of quite how much of the recording is the (excellent) narrator reeling off the title and number of each chapter. My issue is that the book doesn’t end. It’s not even some kind of inevitable cliffhanger. It’s a wtf. There’s a 50:50 chance I’ll buy the next in the series but only once I’ve given a whole book a chance in the meantime. You might be more or less forgiving.

Very poor

I like spy thrillers but I caution you before buying there must be a sequel coming as this book does not end. Yep no ending so you just go oh!

It meandered to nowhere.

Plus there was over 200 chapters!!

Every third word was chapter this or other.

Very very poor
