About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Two exes. One pact.
Could this holiday change everything?
Harriet and Wyn are the perfect couple—they go together like bread and butter, gin and tonic, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Except, now they don't.
They broke up six months ago. And they still haven't told anyone.
Which is how they end up sharing a bedroom at the cottage that has been their yearly getaway with their best friends for the past decade. For one glorious week they leave behind their lives, drink far too much wine and soak up the sea air with their favourite people.
Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth. The cottage is for sale so this is the last time they'll all be together here and they can't bear to break their friends' hearts. So, they'll fake it for one more week.
It's a flawless plan (if you look at it through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses).
But how can you pretend to be in love with someone—and get away with it—in front of the people who know you best?
Brimming with characters you can't help but fall for and off-the-charts chemistry, Happy Place is Emily Henry's best novel yet.

Heartbreakingly beautiful
This book speaks for anyone that has a wounded inner child that is seeking comfort and reassurance. It was heartbreaking and I felt myself relating deeply to Harriet. The only way I can describe this book accurately would be a mix of the Taylor swift songs You’re on your own kid and Losing me. I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, not believing everyone when they said they were devastated, going from happy, sad, laughing, then crying repeatedly. I feel that this book was beautifully thought out being one of the strongest Emily Henry books to date!

I loved this story
I thought it was going to be a nice story that would carry me through the weekend.
It turned out to be a story that hit so many of my weak points and that I identified with.
I literally cried over and over, sometimes with acknowledgement, sometimes with sadness, sometimes with realisation, sometimes with frustration and sometimes with heartbreak, But also sometimes with love.

Feel-good romantic comedy
This book is like the familiar feel-good rom-com that you have watched over and over. It’s an easy listen and it leaves you feeling warm and happy! Julia Whelan’s narration is always amazing - this doesn’t disappoint.

A bit slow and not enough plot
A fun premise and a strong start. But there were several points where I felt that the story was wrapping up and there was still a good couple of hours left to go with not much else happening. For me, there was just not enough plot to keep the story interesting for it’s duration and the same conversations seemed to happen again and again.
Having said that, it definitely is an easy and well read listen that doesn’t require too much brain power, but I was hoping for a little bit more.

Lovely Story
In the beginning I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this novel. However, I persevered and I’m so glad I did. I ended up super invested in the relationship between Harriet and Wyn and couldn’t wait to see how things developed.

Julia Whelan can make anything look better than it is
I understand what Emily Henry tried to do and appreciate it. Her writing is really really good, but some of her characters still make me want more. I don’t care if I like or dislike them as long as they have dimension and make sense. She is really close to do that but still leaves the circle at 350 degrees and is not full for me.
The book started quite well but after 80% I was eager for it to end and not for the right reasons.

Feel-good but kinda cliche
It s an ok read but it s predictable and the complexity is lacking. Then again, i guess those books aren t meant for complexity, so that s fine.
I did take issue with the grander problem of promoting a self-victimising, slightly obsessive main character. Love is a beautiful thing, but having the main character obsessively repeat “you, you, you” whenever faced with her guy and literally glossing over any internal personality growth (such as maybe making your life stable and fulfilled OUTSIDE your relationship first instead of making the latter the only thing that matters and can make you happy) kinda left me so annoyed that i literally barely managed to finish this.
