Summary

Recuperating in Cornwall after being injured in a terrorist attack, anti-terrorism officer DCI Ross O'Bryan discovers a dark secret. An unthinkable crime that somebody has attempted to cover up. Tasked with investigating, he soon finds himself immersed in a world of deception, police corruption, and organized crime.

O'Bryan has his own dark secrets too. In a place where he has no alliances and is viewed with suspicion, it is only a matter of time before he is found out.

For so many years the dramatic and rugged coastline of Cornwall had been the scene to smuggling, deception and murder. Now, O'Bryan will find out how little has changed.

Shocking accents, far-fetched romp of a tale

Ok, so this doesn’t directly relate to the story, but as a listener as opposed to reader, surely performances need to reflect setting and expectations for any audience. Why would anyone cast a native north Englander to read a story set in the far south west of the country - particularly if that performer is totally unable to assume a local accent? The voices were off-putting, caricatures that veered into Irish, American and East Anglian. It distracted from the story and left me wondering if the performer had ever heard a Cornish person speak in his life. Disappointing.
As for the story, there were definitely big holes, but if you desperately want escapism, you could do worse.
