Summary

The USA Today best seller.

Rose Grahame had everything Alex D’Arcy dreams of. A handsome husband, a stunning home and a baby boy with twinkling blue eyes and a smile that would brighten the darkest of days. It’s a stark contrast to Alex’s life - her dead-end job, her borderline addiction to drink and pills, her failed engagement and her cluttered flat. But the women’s lives are about to collide - and nothing will ever be the same again.

Strangers in a lift in a shopping centre, Alex gestures to Rose to go ahead of her when they reach the bottom floor. But tragedy strikes when a car ploughs into the young mum - killing her instantly - before driving off at speed. But was this a tragic accident? Or was it more than that? And just how involved is Emily truly going to become?

With twists that will keep you guessing until the very end, Her Name Was Rose makes you question who you can really trust and if any of us are truly honest about ourselves in the social media obsessed world.

all right but nothing special

Welll, as I have stated it’s all right but nothing special at all. In fact I’d call it predictablle and not all that well written either. Too many ‘saids’ for anyone’s liking but then of coourse as anyone reading any kind of book these days will know that being a published author does not mean one has to be an accomplished writer does it? One merely has to impress an agent and to judge from some of the drivel that is published that’s not so terribly difficult is it? This book follows an accident or is it? Rose is dead and her grieving widower is devastated though not so devastated that he can’t look around barely a couple of months after his wife is in the grave. Emily is his next choice or victim and she’s a total wreck having falllen out of a relationship that went wrong already. Well, that’s basically it really. The naration is fine but with such a predictable book to deal with it’s hard to say if this is a good performance or not.

It’s ok

I’m not sure what I thought of this. It’s quite easy listening but not gripping and I didn’t have any desire to keep listening like I usually do with audiobooks.
Everything is rather predictable apart from one of the twists which comes towards the end. I don’t think the characters are fully explored and I don’t really get “Emily”. Also what’s the deal with her and Ben? Felt like this was lacking in places and depth.

Good

Very good but not as good as “Apple of my eye” which set the bar extremely high.

Good story, narrative not great

I liked the story, that's what kept me going to the end ! I really struggled with the constant 'whisper' of the narration! It was annoying and often times lacked the correct emotions.

A fantastic psychological thriller

I loved the semi-Sliding Doors concept of this novel i.e. you let a woman walk out the door before you and she is hit by a car when it should have been you. Claire Allan deftly works up the possibilities around this - was it an accident or intentional? Was the car actually meant for Emily or Rose? Emily has to get closer to Rose's apparently perfect life - and confront her own demons - to find out. The story is gripping and immersive - you'll feel like you work in that dentist's clinic - and the narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the different characters to life.

Such a really good book

I loved this book, it didn't go overboard or wasn't far fetched. it was sad, but so human, it was written & read so well, with so many emotions of what some people probably go through every day. I liked the way it also made Emily find herself in all that had gone on around her.
