Summary

Faced with losing everything, all that matters is here and now....

Marigold has spent her life taking care of those around her, juggling family life with the running of the local shop, and being an all-round leader in her quiet yet welcoming community. When she finds herself forgetting things, everyone quickly puts it down to her age. But something about Marigold isn’t quite right, and it’s becoming harder for people to ignore. As Marigold’s condition worsens, for the first time in their lives her family must find ways to care for the woman who has always cared for them. Desperate to show their support, the local community comes together to celebrate Marigold and to show her that losing your memories doesn’t matter when there are people who will remember them for you....

Evocative, emotional and full of life, Here and Now is the most moving book you’ll read this year - from Sunday Times best-selling author Santa Montefiore.

So Delightful

Heart warming and some heart renching moments this book is wonderful. A beautiful story, which I have no doubt to be so true is some families. The Love is palpable, deep and warming. From start to end I thoroughly appreciated the unravelling of Marigold, yet the keeping of love and the daughters futures was perfectly balanced. This could have been a sad tail, it is in parts, but cleverly entwined with joy, and the love. A real pleasure to listen to.
I found some of the narration difficult, the accents of characters getting muddled up, some females sounded male and vice versa but on the whole I was able to keep track of who's who.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story which could have been set from true events. Yet I end with a warm glow, a few sad tears, mixed with joyful tears. Thank you.

A moving story

This novel kept me interested all the way through, a family facing a heart-breaking illness, the love they shared is strengthened by compassion and respect for one another. Written with tenderness and understanding combined with excellent narration.

Beautifully written story

I struggled with the narration in the beginning and found the accents really annoying so almost returned it..Very glad I kept going! A lovely story sensitively written whilst dealing with Marigold's progressing illness and the love in her family.. Really enjoyed it...

Too much cackling.

Sad but lovely story. Afraid I didn't take to all the 'cackly' voices, okay if only one but everyone was a bit too much.

difficult topic compassionately tackled

This is such an emotive delicate topic dealt with in a very engaging way with credible characters, each with their stories which intertwined believable. Despite the inevitable sadness, this is actually a very uplifting tale showing the importance of every individual contribution to someone's life, and the ultimate value of someone even when they appear to have lost so much.
The only thing I did not like was the exaggerated screechy accents given to the women in the family, not pleasant to listen to snd I am not sure how authentic they were. I do like Juliet Stevenson and do not like to say anything negative about her, but those voice really grated.
I would still highly recommend this book.

Comforting

I think we all have a fear of Dementia and of losing ourselves and our families but this relayed the experience in a gentle and reassuring manner. I am not pretending it is not a desperately distressing and can be disturbing but the way it was told here gave me comfort.
