Summary
Hugh
Having spent more than twenty years as an emergency medicine physician in war zones around the world, I barely have a home to speak of. A daughter I didn’t know about has died and left a child behind, so I must get to Gaynor Beach, California to claim my granddaughter. Her temporary guardian is the first man to spark my interest in a very long time, but it would be inappropriate for me to have a relationship with this much-younger man.
Oscar
Gutted by my best friend’s death, I take solace in the daughter she left in my guardianship. I’ll protect this precious baby with all I have, and no one is going to take her away from me—least of all the man who turns up on our doorstep claiming to be her grandfather. Despite the resemblance, I plan to keep him at arm’s length. I’m going to show him how capable I am. But I might also lose my heart in the process.
This is a hurt/comfort, interracial, age-gap, MM romance novel with a moderate amount of angst.

sweet single dad romance
This was such a sweet story built out of the ashes of tragedy.
Trigger warning for off page drug addiction and death of a loved one by OD.
This was a lovely and deeply emotional story. Hugh lost his daughter he didn’t know existed and Lucas lost his best friend. They both join together to keep her baby out of foster care. This was well written with wonderful loveable characters. Not just the 2 MCs but the whole town that pitches in to help them. This was a very heartwarming story with plot that I couldn’t stop reading. I’ve read this author before and this book was much longer than others I have read by them but I still read this in one read and couldn’t put it down. It wasn’t steamy at all. It was a super slow burn but I didn’t even mind. It was just so sweet. I loved every minute of it. This was pretty darn perfect. I absolutely would recommend it.
The narrator did a great job. He expressed the emotions really well and brought the story to life. He kept a good flow and I found his voice/accent pleasant to listen too. He gave all the characters, even the side characters, their own distinct voice making it a great listen.

Awesome Story & Narration🎧Riveting & Emotional!
Gabbi Grey pens another wonderful novel, a MM romance that not only captivates your attention the entire time, but tugs at your heartstrings too. This book is part of a multi-author series, the “Single Dads of Gaynor Beach” and stands on its own. Hugh is a doctor who practices in emergency medicine and travels around the world working in war-torn countries. He gets a call that his daughter, a daughter he never knew about, has passed and she left behind her infant daughter, Marilee, and the person she assigned as her guardian was a questionable person, so he rushed to the states to meet the assigned social worker, Anthony, and to see his granddaughter. Anthony did not speak well of her daughter, who battled drug addiction, or of her friend, who has guardianship of Marilee. Hugh goes in with an open mind and it does not take long to see, not is all as he was told. Oscar is grieving the loss of his friend and is doing the best he can with Marilee, and while he was skeptical of Hugh’s arrival at his doorstep, he winds being his saving grace and just what he needed. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, heartwarming moments and a slow burn, but so worth the wait romance. The writing, plot, and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Gabbi Grey, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 The superbly talented Michael Ferraiuolo was the perfect narrator to bring these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. I loved how he took each role and owned it, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound, including the two leads and all the secondary characters, too. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Ferraiuolo is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to.

A wonderful story!
I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Gabbi Grey and Hugh was no exception. I loved it when I read it with my eyes and listening to the fantastic Michael Ferraiuolo’s performance made me love it even more. This a great age gap story with a bit of enemies to friends to lovers.

Sweet, but no sparks
- age gap, single dad, small town
This was an easy read/listen story, with a sweet story, nice MCs, and a cute baby. The main problem was it was slooooow, too slow. Nothing important happens, it spans only a few days and the story is almost all centered around the baby and the MCs caring for her. While I love single dads tropes and seeing the baby/child on page, I also like seeing the romance spark, which this one didn´t. There's some insta-lust going on, but we don't really see the love growing (as I said, it only spans a few days and they start off on the wrong foot, to begin with).
I had some other minor issues with this too, a few things didn't make much sense, but that wouldn't matter as much if the couple made more sense or if we had a couple to cheer for. It felt forced, somehow.
5 stars for the performance, though. Michael nailed it, but nothing surprising there

Wonderful couple
Hugh and Oscar are a wonderful couple brought together by tragedy and their commitment to raising a child. Initially wary of each other, they find their continual exposure leads to much deeper feelings than either expected. Oscar's initial scepticism of Hugh's sudden appearance and claimed relationship made perfect sense and Hugh's reluctance to get involved with the younger Oscar after everything he'd experienced also worked for me. I loved that both of these guys were decent men just trying to do their best and winning in that process. Michael Ferraiuolo dis his usual superb job of taking us inside both of these characters and letting us feel what they feel.

A sweet story
The story is very sweet. Hugh only finds out that he had a daughter when his daughter dies and now he travels halfway around the world to see his granddaughter. Oscar looks after Hugh's daughter's baby. Then there's the social worker Anthony, who doesn't like Oscar at all.
Hugh and Oscar have an attraction right from the start, but not much happens for a long time. Slowly, slowly, slowly. A lot of it is about how they can raise the baby. I like it when there are children in a story, but when the rest of the story moves so slowly and almost fades into the background, I don't find it all that exciting.
But the story with a big age gap and the slowly growing feelings for each other is very sweet.
Michael Ferraiuolo delivered a brilliant performance. He really nailed the emotions and it was a pleasure to listen to his performance

MM - Single dad and Granddad
We meet Hugh, who unbeknown to him is a granddad, not even knowing he had a child, let alone a grand-daughter; his life is about to change,
Oscar, his best friend, died of an overdose, and he's inherited her daughter and is now a single dad. How is he going to cope? He is struggling with the grief of losing his best friend whilst looking after a nine month old, and then Hugh turns up on his doorstep,
Anthony is the social worker who hates Oscar and, in Oscar's eyes, killed his best friend. Anthony is horrid but gets his own story in the next book.
It's a good story, and I loved the characters, apart from Anthony,
Michael Ferraiuolo did an excellent job of narrating this book. As usual, I did speed up the recording to 1.25 on Audible.

very good
Lovely narration, and I particularly liked how the narrator had such a peaceful voice for Hugh, whose character really exuded calm.
Story 3.5 stars. It was a bit strange for me in one way as I had read Anthony but not this book where he was introduced and where his behaviour caused such issues. It was nice having a biracial and age gap story where those weren't the focus of the story. The growing found family were great.

Heartwarming, Lovely Performance by Ferraiuolo
What a sweet story! Leave it to Gabbi Grey to put a new spin on a familiar tale, and that's just what they do in Hugh. Age gap, opposites attract, new (and unexpected fathering), and even a bit of enemies to lovers here. So many of my favorite tropes, beautifully done.
The audio version of Hugh is nicely performed by Michael Ferraiuolo.
