About this listen
In Boyfriend Material, Luc and Oliver met, pretended to fall in love, fell in love for real, dealt with heartbreak and disappointment and family and friends...and somehow figured out a way to make it work. Now it seems like everyone around them is getting married, and Luc's feeling the social pressure to propose. But it'll take more than four weddings, a funeral, and a bowl full of special curry to get these two from "I don't know what I'm doing" to "I do".
Good thing Oliver is such perfect Husband Material.

Encore
A very welcome sequel. Luc, Oliver and the cast are all welcome returns to Audible. A well developed cast support probably the most romantic couple in their continuing story. Joe Jameson once again nails it - a fantastic actor who develops the characters throughout. Roll on Father Material. Bravo and encore.

Loved the ‘complicated’. So much better than the usual romcom.
I loved the way Luc and Oliver’s complex and complicated personalities were drawn through their relationship within a framework of love that transcended the norms. The ending was perfect and very fitting. I don’t understand why some readers/ listeners didn’t like it. How could they have expressed their love and the strength of their relationship more strongly? Or more ironically, indeed? Very clever.

Not what I'd hoped for
I had just listened to Boyfriend Material for the third time before launching myself directly into this one. Joe Jameson is a brilliant narrator!
But sadly I have to say that I'm mostly disappointed about how this sequel turned out.

Another very impressive performance from Joe...
THREE stars for the story, but FIVE stars without a doubt for Joe Jameson's amazing narration once again. I really do not have enough superlatives for how brilliant his two narrations so far have been in this series.
The story seemed to lag at times, and Luc just got on my very last nerve [again]; for the life of me, I still can't understand what Oliver sees in him, and the 'angry' tension between the two of them made it quite an exhausting read. Luc behaves like a spoiled little child having a tantrum, in fact I could definitely see him throwing his toys out of his pram when he was younger. So what if Oliver doesn't want to be as 'out' as you are Luc? It's not a competition, it's surely a question of personal choice and he's chosen to be far more understated in his 'gayness', but that doesn't mean that he isn't gay...and of course as far as his profession is concerned, he probably needs to keep things under wraps and tone things down, you know on the 'DL'...you've heard of that phrase I'm assuming Mr O'Donnell? Perhaps not, you're not really interested in what anyone else feels or thinks, you're too full of yourself.
Luc didn't seem to do any 'growing up' in this story as far as I'm concerned, but I was extremely impressed with Oliver and the way he told his father to go f**k himself. Yay!! Both of his parents were definitely homophobic and very opinionated, with outdated beliefs that were obviously very suitable for the toffs at the local Conservative club...but in this day and age? Definitely not. People like that need a few lessons in tolerance and acceptance. This isn't the British Empire anymore and the sooner you lot get those ideas out of your heads, the better.
I still love Joe's 'Odile' accent and his 'Rhys Jones Bowen'. Unfortunate that we had to catch up with Justice Mayhew cos that nasty old bigot would definitely be one of the first up against the wall when that inevitable revolution comes, and of course, the less said about Luc's 'sperm donor' the better, he really isn't worth the page space IMHO.

The worst ending of a book EVER!
What a let down of the whole book! The ending just ruined the whole story and made it a pointless book especially after Boyfriend Material was my favourite and have listened to it several times!
A 3rd needs to be written to make up for it!

Another lovely book by Alexis Hall.
A great follow on to one of my favourite reads. It’s always nice to catch up with some old friends, and this book does that brilliantly.
It gives the same brilliantly quirky vibes as the first book, but brings in some real home hitting truths about being gay and the notion of marriage.

Frustratingly good!
I really enjoyed the sequel to Boyfriend Material. As with the first book, it touched on some difficult topics and at times made me question some of my own assumptions and gay ideology. On occasion, I found myself wanting to knock the characters heads together as I was frustrated by their emotional inadequacy, I guess this proves just how invested I had become in the characters. Well written and once again extremely well narrated by Joe Jameson.
