About this listen

Don’t miss the captivating new book from Sunday Times bestselling author Susan Lewis!

High-flying lawyer Jessica Wells has it all. A successful career, loving husband Tom and a family she adores. But one case – and one client – will put all that at risk.

Edward Blake. An ordinary life turned upside down – or a man who quietly watched television while his wife was murdered upstairs? With more questions than answers and a case too knotted to unravel, Jessica suspects he’s protecting someone.

Then she comes home one day and her husband utters the words no one ever wants to hear. Sit down … I have something to tell you

Now Jessica must fight not only for the man she defends, but for the man she thought she trusted with her life – her husband.

decent read

A most outrageous storyline which keeps you hanging on...right till the end but a good read just the same.

Not my favourite Susan Lewis book…

Sadly this wasn’t by any means my favourite Susan Lewis book. There was very little joy in the story but instead a lot of shouting and arguing, which although I can understand was necessary because of the storyline, made it hard listening (I suspect better in the written form), and I found myself gradually building quite a strong dislike of the main character and her petulant daughter, and wishing I could give them both a good telling-off! Julia Winwood is without doubt a skilful narrator but male voices aren’t her forte and I couldn’t relate to the male characters as they all had very strange voices. Having said that, this is only my personal opinion and no doubt there will be many with different views!

Should he have told her?

Couldn’t put this down.
The storyline was totally gripping … just wondering why Ed who on so many levels seems so massively decent would effectively ruin the life of someone and her extended family, who he professes to love for a very fleeting love affair?

A little predictable at times, but enjoyed listening to the audio book. An easy listen

A waste of a credit!

You expect one thing from this book and get something else entirely! The story is slow and nothing seems to really happen, the crime itself seems to be in the background of Jessica and her marriage/family problems, Jessica is a terrible lawyer, the names of characters are inconsistent and the narrator is irritating and whiny. The only good part of this book is when Edward's confession comes at the end and leaves you wondering what it would take for someone to commit murder and it was the best part of the book and left me thinking that this book could have been so much better if it had gone down the route of sticking to the murder investigation and left out all the other unnecessary rubbish.

Among the best!

Having read a few hundred books over the past 5 years this book effortlessly sits within the highest centile. The plot is wonderfully creative yet credible. The narration is flawless. I would not be surprised to see this book presented as a TV drama or indeed a film.

predictable ending, but story read well.

I enjoyed the story although was sad it had such a predicable ending. I had guessed where it was going mid way and was sad it took me straight there, kept waiting for the twist at tye very end but it never came. Have read better
