Summary

IELTS is the most popular English exam in the world today. It is also the ideal way to perfect the English language from a basic to advanced level. In this series, you will be escorted through the course with Richard Aspinall, a teacher who has a proven track record in teaching the IELTS curriculum successfully all over the world. He will take you through this "easy to follow" step-by-step guide, in which you will be represented by a student, and you will learn everything you need to know to improve your English and get a high-band score in the exam.

Welcome to the Speaking Guide. In this book we will be explaining the three parts of the speaking test; the difference between formal and informal language; how to take notes during part 2; and how to avoid pauses during the test. You can listen to an IELTS student taking the speaking test, and hear the teacher’s comments and advice. There is also a useful question-and-answer section, in which students’ queries and worries about the IELTS Speaking test are discussed.

Highly recommended

As an experienced ELT teacher, I thought I should review this audiobook for my students. There is so much IELTS material available to buy, that how does a student know where s/he will get good value for money? The choice is overwhelming.

This audiobook runs through the differences between the three speaking tests....nothing new there, many books do that... but this one is audio (obvious, I know!) hence has an added advantage of listening practice for an IELTS student. It brings the lesson to life and feels quite real, as opposed to the black and white print of 'yet another' theoretical "How to pass an exam" book. The teacher corrects the student's (minor) errors, and gives feedback on which mistakes are of little concern to the examiners and which are to be avoided, at all costs. The teacher gives excellent tips to the student about structuring answers before speaking in the IELTS test. The teacher provides a formula for success at IELTS.

I liked the relaxed style of the speakers (teacher and student). The rapport was natural. One could hear the student learning throughout the audiobook "lesson" and of course, there was the added advantage of being able to listen to a dialogue, on a familiar topic - absolutely ideal for IELTS candidates.... A student would get a lot of benefit from listening to the audiobook several times.

I think that anyone taking an IELTS speaking test will benefit from this audiobook; regardless of the level that they aspire to achieve. The cost of the audiobook is extremely reasonable when one considers the lessons learned within the audiobook and then compare this with the cost of lessons in a regular IELTS course at a language school.

As a result of listening to this audiobook, I have bought all of the other IELTS books in the series and I will be recommending the audiobook series to my students.

Not helpful

I was looking for something more advanced
it's for beginners
the student asked few questions that were not related to the book like where to take the test!
