Summary

Penguin presents I'm Only In It for the Parking written and read by Lost Voice Guy aka Lee Ridley.

What’s the worst thing about being disabled? Is it the shameless staring? Is it that people assume you’re a bit thick because you can’t speak? Or is it the fact that your friends always take you to theme parks just so they can jump the queues?

In fact, it’s the stupid questions that really rile Lee Ridley, aka Lost Voice Guy. And over the years he’s been inundated with them, from people who have failed to engage their brains before opening their mouths. Which is where I’m Only In It for the Parking comes in - think of it as a disabled FAQ, with funny (sometimes painfully funny) stories from Lee’s less-ordinary life.

If you think you know what it’s like to be disabled, prepare to have your perceptions skewered by the much-loved Britain’s Got Talent winner, the brilliant stand-up who struggles to stand up, the Geordie without the accent. And before you ask … no, he really can’t speak at all. But he definitely has something to say.

Entertaining ... but could be longer.

Great... but the section on his comedy needs to be longer .... and what is he doing since TV stardom?

A guy who found his voice!

I loved lost voice guy on BGT. I am disabled myself and I really related to the humour displayed both on tv and in this book. His machine narrates the book which adds a certain authenticity to the overall experience. A reviewer said that he felt that having his machine read the book did not work I disagree. This work is more then gag after gag but its an important piece of work that goes someway to dismiss myths and out of date notions about what is possible.

I encourage anyone to listen to this book and laugh but also think....There are moments in the book that are painful isolation due to no voice but the majority of the book is fun with a message don't be scared to speak a disabled person he does give survival types on questions not to ask which is both funny and thought provoking.

For me this is a funny book with a clear message My voice is as loud as anyone else his mantra appears to be the same as mine educate don't alienate!!!

Inspirational, intelligent, funny wonderful honest

This is a book that is inspirational, funny, honest and so refreshing. Lee is intelligent, warm and funny and his outlook and humourous views on life are honest and incredibly funny. What a refreshing and inspirational guy.

This is a biography rather than standup comedy It is a book about the challenges of growing up with disabilities about dealing with and conquering all that life throws at you and still keeping your sense of humour. It shares the ups and downs and frustrations faced, the pranks played, but ultumately achieving dreams against all odds . It was heart warming, honest funny and most of all inspirational.

Very funny but ends to abruptly

For anyone interested in stand-up comedy, this is a must listen! Lee Rigby a.k.a. lost voice guy is a talented and laugh out loud comedian who has a great deal to say about disability and living life to the full. As someone with disabilities myself, a lot of what he has to say resonates with me and there is some sage advice for anyone interacting with disabled people in their everyday lives whether at home, work and anywhere in between. This book teaches you that disability is okay and to make the most of what you have and take every opportunity that life throws at you with open arms; Lee certainly did. My only reason for knocking off a star is that the book is too short, and ends to abruptly it’s over before it’s really begun and I would’ve liked to have heard more from him. I would also recommend anyone listening to this to speed up the narration by using the narration speed control as the synthesiser that he uses although perfectly authentic it’s not really suited to an audiobook presentation. Just my opinion though, others may feel differently about this.

I bought this book because the stand up on BGT was really funny but I am not such a fan of this and I also got bored. It wasnt really funny or interesting in my opinion.
