My name is Alex Whitman. In 1983 I was about to turn 18, and all sorts of things were going on in the world. There were music videos on the MTV channel on cable TV, home computers were beginning to be used. The first mobile phones were being released and were really expensive, most people had Pagers and thought that was pretty cool. The first space shuttle launch with a woman was successful with astronaut Sally Ride. There was an old time actor in the White House. And there were really important things like Madonna having her first hit records and the craze of Cabbage Patch dolls… the dolls were kind of ugly, Madonna was not.
As you can see, the world was a crazy place, but that summer I was not…I was with my family at a cottage far away from it all…

1—Alex: Chance Encounter
The summer breeze gently caressed my face as I strolled along the dock, enjoying the peaceful scenery of the coastal town of Bluewater, Maine. It was a typical day, with the sun casting a golden glow over the rippling waves. Little did I know that this seemingly ordinary day would mark the beginning of a life-altering journey.
I remember my first funny encounter with Liam Ramsey, and it happened when I was shopping for a new swimsuit. I spotted this fantastic blue one with a white lightning bolt design that caught my eye immediately. Just as I reached out to grab it, I noticed that someone else’s hand was reaching for it too!
I saw it was another guy about my age. We both locked eyes and had a brief, awkward moment, realizing we wanted the same swimsuit. It was comical how we both murmured, “sorry” and both quickly pretended to change our minds and acted as if we were no longer interested in that particular swimsuit. I tried to play it cool, but deep down, I was a little annoyed that I couldn't get the suit I initially wanted.
Later on, I decided to go back and purchase the swimsuit, thinking the guy had probably moved on. But when I returned, there he was, trying it on and buying it! I couldn't help but chuckle at the situation. As annoyed as I was initially, I had to admit that the suit looked absolutely fantastic on the cute guy's trim, swimmers body. It was as if it was made for him.
