Summary

How can we change our behaviours? The first step is understanding our habits. For better or worse, habits are the invisible building blocks of daily life. Research suggests that about 40% of what we do is repeated almost daily and yet most of the time we aren’t really aware of what’s happening.

In this series, neuroscientist Ash Ranpura and comedian Alice Fraser deep dive into the science of behaviour change. They want to find out how we can make good habits and how we can break bad ones. Along the way they meet the man who invented the science of habits, talk to a woman trying to change the world through figuring out how to make behaviour change stick and try out some of the latest tricks and techniques designed to help you change your own behaviours.

This is the one series you should have in your headphones if you want to understand how to make positive changes in your life.

Surprised your didn’t include food

I enjoyed listening to this podcast. You covered an interesting and relevant range of topics. But
It did feel very middle class at times, apart from the cbt episode.
However given the increasing understanding of the importance of food and gut health on mood , I feel this was an omission. Perhaps next time.

Good info

Lots of good info presented in a fun, down to earth way. The editing kept my attention as I listened to the entire series in one go. I must say that all of the techniques and paths to forming good habits are happening in a regular yoga practice (I’m talking from a philosophical perspective rather than a physical one, although the physical practice is definitely a slice of the whole pie.) For example, baby steps, MEA, hypnosis (well, meditation can be quite hypnotic) are all on the path of practice and repetition, changing samskaras (patterns/ record grooves) and eventually turning in your unwanted habits for the ones that improve your existence. I really enjoyed it. Now, off to fine tune the habits that need reminding. Thanks!

Very useful and informative.

A good introduction to various techniques, many of which I’ll be trying myself. This has also set me off looking into more depth into a couple the techniques.
It’s delivered in a lighthearted, ‘non-textbook’ way.
