Summary

New York Times best-selling author Mira Grant, author of the renowned Newsflesh series, returns with a novel that takes us to a new world of ancient mysteries and mythological dangers come to life.

The ocean is home to many myths,

But some are deadly....

Seven years ago the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a mockumentary bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a tragedy.

Now a new crew has been assembled. But this time they're not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life's work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart, this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.

Whatever the truth may be, it will be found only below the waves.

But the secrets of the deep come with a price.

Thrilling, fun and gory

I had to stop this every so often to take a break, the closed off spaces with a monster at your heels is one of the things I love/hate to read! This is 100% worth your time!

Bit of a let down.

Thought the idea was great but the main characters were not likeable and the narration and accents were very poor . It also ended very abruptly so all in all was dissapointed

Brilliant narrator

Great story, really compelling.
Christine Lakin does an amazing job of keeping up with all the characters.. 2 accent are a little shaky but she’s fantastic.

Pretty easy entertainment

Loved the story though I I have to say sometimes it went a little bit too far in explaining the science behind certain bits, making it drag a little.

The characters were a little melodramatic in some place but on the whole likeable.

The reader was fairly good, very consistent throughout even though their attempts at accents were a little out there

Gripping story!

One of the few times where I’ve really been gripped by the plot of a story, really recommend this - my only critique is the Australian accent. Just try to get through it, the plot is worth it!

New favorite book

My new favorite book. I loved every second. So well written and an amazing story. Filled with really interesting characters and followed multiple povs with out being confusing. I didn’t want it to end, I knew I would love this book after hearing what it was about but I didn’t know it would be my new favorite.

The narration is really well done and so impressive. Having one narrator do the voices of multiple characters can be confusing but she did it so well. I knew witch character we were following very easily based on how she changed her voice. Her voice was also very nice to listen to and I want to listen to more books narrated by her now.

devoured it like a mermaid

I absolutely loved it, very well written, sensitive depictions of characters and quite spooky.

Amazing

I half read half listened to this book for various reasons and loved every second of it. I just couldn't put it down. The characters are great, the story compelling, the atmosphere delightfully claustrophobic and the science brilliantly described.
The narrator does a fantastic job in her tone, her reading, fleshing out characters and giving the story all the power of terror it deserves.
(My only little laugh was for the Australian accent that was... not quite there, as well as the French-quebecois accent that sounded more Slavic than French).
I wish there were more books like this!
