Summary

Helicopter landing at the farm after everything quit working? Check. Outrageous (sort of) demands being made by the regional military command? Check. Clayton Sanders drafter back into the Army? Che-, er what? (insert record skipping noise).

Army Colonel Hal Woodson visits the farm and appeals to both Clayton and Greg Holloway to step up and help restore order to the region. Each has their own job to do and their own role to play. For Clay? Escort a convoy of relief supplies in the area. Previous convoys in their area have all gone missing without a single person or vehicle returning.

It's more than a mystery, it's a travesty in a time when supplies are in short supply, working vehicles are priceless, and living souls after the plague are far fewer than before the Storm and all it has brought. So, reluctantly, Clay agrees. Because he knows it has to be done, and that he can do it. That doesn't mean he wants to because he doesn't. It just means that he is willing to do what it takes to get his nation, or his part of it anyway, back up on two feet. Even if it means travelling into the sun.
