Omurice is one of the most well-known "Western foods" born in Japan between the Meiji and Taisho periods.

オムライスは、明治時代から大正時代にかけての日本で生まれた広く知られた「洋食」のひとつ。
一般的に、油で炒め、トマトケチャップで味付けしたご飯を、オムレツで包み、ケチャップをかけたものです。
ケチャップの代わりにデミグラスソースやホワイトソースをかける場合もあります。
また、ご飯の上にふわふわの半熟オムレツをのせ、オムレツに切れ目を入れると卵が広がってご飯を包み込むスタイルもあります。
銀座の「煉瓦亭」や、大阪の「北極星」は、日本でいち早くオムライスを提供した店として有名です。
オムライスを定番メニューとするメイドカフェも多く、メイドさんが卵の上にケチャップでハートマークなどの絵を描いてくれます。
