Summary

Tea leaves are made into green tea, black tea, oolong tea, and other types of tea by different processing methods. However, "tea" in Japan usually refers to green tea.

茶は加工法の違いによって緑茶、紅茶、ウーロン茶などにわかれますが、日本で茶といえば一般的に緑茶を指します。
国内で生産される茶もほぼすべてが緑茶です。緑茶は製法の違いで、さらに番茶や煎茶、玉露などにわかれます。
茶道で飲まれる抹茶も緑茶の一種です。
日本茶は紅茶のように砂糖を入れて飲むことはなく、渋みや苦みも含めて、素材の味をそのまま楽しむのが基本です。
現在はペットボトル入りの茶を飲む人が多く、これは自動販売機やコンビニで買うことができます。
また、たいていの飲食店では日本茶は水と同じように無料で提供されます。
静岡県や京都の宇治などが茶の産地として有名で、5月に茶畑で茶摘みが始まると、日本人は夏が近いと感じます。
