Summary

This is the story of three best friends: one who was murdered, one who went to prison and one who's been searching for the truth all these years....

When she was 16 years old, Angela Wong, one of the most popular girls in school, disappeared without a trace. Nobody ever suspected that her best friend, Georgina Shaw, now an executive and rising star at her Seattle pharmaceutical company, was involved in any way. Certainly not Kaiser Brody, who was close with both girls back in high school.

But 14 years later, Angela Wong's remains are discovered in the woods near Geo's childhood home. And Kaiser, now a detective with Seattle PD, finally learns the truth: Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who murdered at least three other women.

To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But to Geo, he's something else entirely. Back in high school, Calvin was Geo's first love. Turbulent and often volatile, their relationship bordered on obsession from the moment they met right up until the night Angela was killed.

For 14 years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For 14 years, she carried the secret of Angela's death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison.

While everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep. And what happened that fateful night is more complex and more chilling than anyone really knows. Now the obsessive past catches up with the deadly present when new bodies begin to turn up, killed in the exact same manner as Angela Wong.

How far will someone go to bury her secrets and hide her grief? How long can you get away with a lie? How long can you live with it? Find out in Jennifer Hillier's Jar of Hearts.

Good Read

I purchased this audible book after recommendations online.
It has a good plot and is evenly paced throughout.
Plot twist at the end but because I knew there was going to be a twist I had already guessed it which made it less of a shock.
Worth a listen to.

My first by the author and I loved it. Couldn’t wait to slip on my headphones to carry on with the story.

A decent thriller

This was a pretty solid thriller, lots of twists and some good characters. We are told the story from 2 different points of view; one, the main character, a woman with a dark past and many secrets and a policeman who happens to be in love with her and who was her best mate growing up.

I enjoyed the secrets, the part about time spent in prison, the serial killer on the loose aspect, all the dark bits I suppose but the romance aspect spoiled this story for me.

I also didn’t love our main character, or rather I did but I went off her. I’m not even sure why, I think I wanted her to be darker, more dangerous but actually she was naive and a bit silly, even as she got older she doesn’t really learn or understand things in the way I think most people in the real world would. But hey this is fiction.

Overall a decent story, lots of twists and reveals which were very well done. This is a thriller with a side of romance which was a bit obvious, inevitable, and cheesy too. But it made the whole book a little lighter in tone than a full on murder investigation. I preferred the more serious bits in prison and the hunt for the killer though.

A solid 4 stars.

No idea how I will sleep tonight.

Goodness me! From the sex to the violence, I hardly came up for air (excuse the pun).
What a rollercoaster of minds and emotions. This book certainly takes over your life so make sure you have the spare time to read/listen. Far fetched but I did enjoy Jar of Hearts.

Engaging narration

This was a good listen. Unfortunately I guessed the twist very early on but that’s just because I’m my own worst enemy and I was looking for it. But overall - engaging.

fine enough but I wouldn't call it a thriller

more like an unfolding of an old and new murder mystery plus some orange is the new black mini feature and scenes reminiscent of heather's
