Paris, octobre 1943. Un important dignitaire nazi, le colonel SS Julius Ritter, a été assassiné en sortant de chez lui, près du Trocadéro. La Gestapo est sur les dents. Elle convoque l'inspecteur principal adjoint Sadorski pour lui confier la direction d'une petite unité de policiers français gestapistes chargée de traquer les "terroristes" juifs FTP-MOI. Sadorski caresse l'espoir de gagner de l'avancement en effectuant un brillant coup de filet.

Joignant l'utile à l'agréable, il cache dans son appartement la jeune Juive Julie Odwak, qu'il a mise enceinte. La situation est des plus scabreuses : sa femme Yvette, qui ignore la véritable identité du père, doit simuler pour elle-même une grossesse afin d'éviter la curiosité des voisins lorsque l'enfant naîtra...

Les choses ne se passeront pas exactement comme Sadorski l'avait prévu. Ce sera bien pire.
