"Burns with the luminosity of faith in the invincible nature of human hope and dignity....Unforgettable" (Andre Brink)

"Enthralling.... Mandela emulates the few great political leaders such as Lincoln and Gandhi, who go beyond mere consensus and move out ahead of their followers to break new ground." (Sunday Times)

great book

I loved the book, Danny Glover read it well. was nice he really tried his best to pronounce the names correctly. I expected it to be a few hours more because I have the book on my shelf and that is a really thick book. But nevertheless I enjoyed it from start to finish. I knew most parts of the story but still surprised that all of this isn't fiction and that it still exists in this world in many different forms.

brilliant story that helped shape the 20C

few people have had as big an impact on 20th century history. To hear Mandela recount his memories is a unique insight to world shaping events through the eyes of the main participant.

Fantastic Insight into the great man.

Enjoyed the story after initially struggling with the narrators' accent. Being familiar with the South African accent, pronunciation of some of the names took away from authenticity of the story for me. Beyond that, brilliant listen.

Mandelas's way to freedom in a nutshell

I really liked it, the only setback for me was the fact that it had a lot of historical facts, while I would be more interested in Nelson Mandela's thoughts and reflections.
I have no idea whether the unabridged book has some more philosophical content. For me, Mandela is one of the greatest people of all times, a mentor, and spiritual leader, not only political, so I didn't get much from that department.
But it was great to get to know more about this remarkable human being.

Extraordinary man! inspiring!

No words could describe how happy I have got the chance to know about this great man. Amazing character that his biography should be taught in schools all around the world. I have enjoyed every single minute listening to this audio book and was in tears many times. The narration is excellent, sometimes I felt I was listening to Mandela himself reading his book. I think I will listen to this book again in the near future. It is just amazing 👏
Also, the African songs were a great adition. Thoroughly thrilled.

Very touching story

Nelson Mandela’s biography it’s a real inspiration of strength and courage. The entire narration it’s catchy. It’s that’s kind of a book that you have to finish it before you can put the book down. Eye opener to real history. This book made me realised that establishments are using the legacy of positive movements to lie people into believing whatever the establishment wants them to believe.
This book made me understand the power of learning the history so I won’t repeat it.

Lacking warmth and depth of narration

Would you listen to Long Walk to Freedom again? Why?

. I would listen to this book again but not until it is read by a better voice sorry.

How could the performance have been better?

I have already listened to conversations with myself and found it a beautiful listen, I had hoped for the same warmth and to learn more about this great man but sadly the American accent really affected this books listening, I found myself switching off and at times becoming annoyed by the lack of beauty that can be heard when the African language is pronounced in a tongue capable of giving it the rolls and ripples it deserves
