Summary
In 1979 Liz Pryor is a 17-year-old girl from a good family in the wealthy Chicago suburbs. Halfway through her senior year of high school, she discovers that she is pregnant, a fact her parents are determined to keep a secret from her friends, siblings, and community forever. One snowy January day, after driving across three states, her mother drops her off at what Liz thinks is a Catholic home for unwed mothers but which is, in truth, a locked government-run facility for delinquent and impoverished pregnant teenage girls. In the cement-block residence, Liz is alone and terrified, a fish out of water - a girl from a privileged, sheltered background living amid tough, street-savvy girls who come from the foster care system or juvenile detention.
But over the next six months, isolated and in involuntary hiding from everyone she knows, Liz develops a surprising bond with the other girls and begins to question everything she once held true. Told with tenderness, humour, and an open heart, Look at You Now is a deeply moving story about the most vulnerable moments in our lives and how a willingness to trust ourselves can permanently change who we are and how we see the world.

What did you like most about Look at You Now?
The book was written with great detail and absorbed you in to the words of every character, feeling, place and moment.
Which character – as performed by Liz Pryor – was your favourite?
All really interesting characters with their very own real story to be heard one day! Would be great to hear a sequel or two as to where the characters are now in their lives, did they reunite, stay in touch etc?
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Liz tells a rather sad but powerful story with an ending you wished was going to be different. I was also left with a question at the end which would probably be small to other readers but big to me - what was the baby - boy or girl? Though this doesn't change the enormity of what's happened to Liz, I just so wanted to her to say, my baby ??
Any additional comments?
I've only given a 4 for the performance, whilst Liz delivered well the recording itself broke a few times leaving me wondering if I'd missed something.
Having said that I would still recommend this book as a good read/audio.

Gripping Story

Really good story, gripping and quite emotional. My only negative comment would be the ending is so abrupt I actually thought I had skipped a couple of chapters

Emotional Roller coaster of a Book!
I was very skeptical about this book after reading the first chapter but it developed in a book of insight and character. The relationships between Liz, her parents, the girls and support staff read a compelling story. I definitely recommend this book. It's provides an array of emotions color and laugh-out-load moments amongst a very serious and though provoking subject.
