About this listen

Oliver Chase only has two things going for him; an addiction to dating sim RPGs and a spotty mental health history.

Stuck working a dead-end job, another lonely Valentine's Day passes Oliver by. There's a coworker he's kind of into, but irl flirting isn't as easy as choosing the right dialog option and clicking a button, sadly... but what if it was? After a lonely night jackin' it under the influence of Special Californian Gummies™, Oliver awakens to what appears to be a complete psychotic breakdown. System notifications, menus, stats, and so much more RPG crap gets injected into his life faster than you can say, 'I Can't Believe It's Not Schizophrenia'.

Even crazier, Oliver starts earning 'Love Points' through having romantic interactions with certain girls, which can then be spent on skills ranging from passive buffs to reality-warping insanity. He wants to make the most of these new powers, but he won't earn enough to do so if he isn't working multiple angles, and between his chill coworker, his evil boss, and the girl who ruined his life? Well...

It's best to start with the tutorial.

Brilliant and cute

Brilliant first instalment of the series, great premis and fantastic execution, cute as hell and hot where it counts, love the slower pacing makes the progression fell earned. can't wait for the next one.

Can't wait for the next book!

So, i gave overall 4/5 but i personally only want to knock off half a star, which is why i'm commenting it here, there's some poor audio editing & QA with the start of chapters with blank audio for around 10 seconds, sometimes skipping the chapter titles (level 51, level 57 etc.)
otherwise, i loved the story, and the narrators did a great job.

Very slow burn book

This book is legitimately what the blurb says. Loser gains dating sim RPG powers ie stats, screens and skills gained through grinding.

An Anime trope riddled slow burn where the MC uses the system to better himself and ingratiate himself to people around him.

Not a bad book but hopefully MC expands his route from one girl to include the others in the sequel.

Slow burn, Super wholesome, cute and spicy romance

This is one of the better written books in this genre ive experienced, the dialogue especially felt very real, no second hand cringe moments which is always a pleasure. It really was very well written so good job to the author on that success. Characters feel very real in this book, all have issues some large, some small, but all feel grounded in reality even in this fantastical situation, which i really appreciate. Watching Olivers character development in particular was really well done and always felt very natural for the situation, so great job there. The humour is also surprisingly good, got a couple chuckles out of me.

I only really have 2 issues with this book, 1 major and 1 minor. The minor issue i have is a first for me when it comes to buying erotica, ive never had an erotica book not include actual intercourse before, there are a lot of steamy moments sure, but the main couple never go all the way. It makes sense within the book why this happens, but also it feels wrong? like the book should of been 5-10 hours longer to end on that high note? But i can look over that.

The REAL issue i had though, the boxing. why. why the inclusion of multiple hours of boxing related content, that felt so incredibly forced and out of place in an otherwise amazing, fun, wholesome book?? I mean the main character themselves literally says something along the lines of "what happened to my steamy romance life? whats with the genre shift?" or something similar to that. The author LITERALLY wrote something so out of place that the MC of his own story called him out on it. Its not clever to 4th wall break in an attempt to say "haha, see it doesnt matter if its bad because i called attention to it!" no. its just bad. God i hated this part of the book. I nearly quit and refunded because it was so boring to me. Thankfully everything around the boxing BS was great enough to keep me going. Gah i just had to rant about this because it ruined an otherwise perfect book. I understand why it happened, i understand the reasons behind it in going forward, i just simply don't care. It. Was. Boring.

Overall 8/10, would of been a 10/10 without the boxing stuff. Mia is Best girl.
