Summary
Brain cell regeneration and brain plasticity
Most people are operating far below their potential. They have within them a tool that is not being used to its full potential. The main reason for this is that for many years, most people haven’t been educated about the power that lies within them. It’s the power of the mind (and the brain). This tool has the ability to enable us to become geniuses. That may seem like a ridiculous notion to many people, because the general populace has been so conditioned to believe they are "nothing special". We believe that there are just a small percentage of people throughout the ages who were born to be a genius with super memories or abilities, and that the rest of us just have to accept our lot. The truth is many of the people we consider to be a genius, started out "average" but somehow tapped into their minds and harnessed it to achieve great feats. The good news is that with some re-education and daily habits, most of us can do this, too.
For over a century, it has been believed that the brain cells cannot regenerate or can only do so to a certain degree. There are still many researchers who believe this outdated concept, and it still gets reinforced in society. As a result, most people write themselves off as not being capable of truly mastering a skill, or they accept that memory loss is part of getting old. It was believed that only the liver can regenerate itself, and there are many people who have difficulty grasping that concept as well! Fortunately, there are many innovative experts who have blown this old theory about the brain out of the water.
In the 1990s, Princeton University carried out research on the brain and discovered that neurons are continuously being added. The brain is plastic! It’s not made from plastic; rather, it’s able to change and it does all the time. This is known as neuroplasticity. Understanding that the brain regenerates is essential if we are to harness its power, along with the mind. This audiobook isn’t just about the theory of how wonderful the brain and mind really are, it’s also a guidebook full of practical steps you can take to improve your memory drastically, even if you believe you have a poor memory right now. Some of the benefits of improving your memory include:
- Feeling more relaxed
- Reducing or eliminating stress and anxiety
- Better sleep (for one thing, you won’t be lying awake at night wondering what it is you forgot to do)
- Increasing your learning abilities
- Developing new skills and retaining more knowledge, and
- Increasing your confidence
In chapter one, we will distinguish the difference between the brain and mind. The two often get used interchangeably, which can leave people feeling confused. Is there really a difference between the two? We will explore this in the first chapter. In chapter two, we will explore the brain further by discussing its ability to change and why it’s important to encourage this process. Many leading experts have proven repeatedly that the brain is neuroplastic. Just by listening to this chapter, it will help to change any current beliefs you may still hold about your brain not having the potential to be rewired. Next, it’s time to focus on the different levels of the mind and how powerful this tool is for us to develop a memory that’s considered "super" or "genius".
Along with exercising the brain, it’s important to remember that what we eat can play a pivotal role in our brain’s health. Just like with our bodies, we know that the right diet and exercise will keep it healthy, this applies to the brain, too - since it’s part of the body! We will look at the best foods to eat and the ones to avoid (neurotoxins). It’s important to note that while we can suggest a diet that’s ideal for harnessing your brain’s power, ultimately you must trust your intuition to know what to eat.
As this guide is about improving memory, it’s important that we explore it further.
