About this listen

London, 1882. Alec Lonsdale, a young reporter on the Pall Mall Gazette, is working on a story about a fatal house fire. But the postmortem on the victim produces shocking results: Patrick Donovan's death was no accident. But why would someone murder a humble shop assistant and steal part of his brain?

When a second body is discovered, its throat cut, and then a third, Lonsdale and his spirited female colleague, Hulda Friederichs, begin to uncover evidence of a conspiracy that reaches to the highest echelons of Victorian society.

Complex plotting

Excellent narration which added to the pleasure of this tale. Very much in the style of a Holmes story.Unexpected twists and I really enjoyed this.

Excellent story and narrator

Came across this book in a sale and really enjoyed it. The story was excellent with twists and turns and very atmospheric.

The narrator was very good and adds depth to the characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a story with a bit of a difference.

What a find

Had this on my wish list for a while then bought it this month
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very atmospheric.
I was going to get authors second book in series, but like others without Jonathan Keeble, who as usual, was superb, reading it, I shan’t bother.
Narrators are so important. They can make or ruin a book, even when the story is good.
Authors take note.

Excellent

This is a fascinating history of 19th century news coverage. I hope Simon Beaufort continues Lonsdales adventures. As a murder mystery you won't be disappointed, it is an exciting roller coaster ride, the narrator is perfect.
