Summary

A lady in disguise.... A rogue out for revenge....

What better way to escape an abusive fiancé and a tyrannical mother than by masquerading as the male secretary to the most infamous scientist in the land? Davina Benwick can’t think of a single one.

But pretending to be a man is hard work, especially around her employer. He’s as charming as he is eccentric, and Davina can’t help but fall for him. Not only does he think she’s a man, however - he’s hell-bent on marrying another. What’s a lady to do?

Julian Hirst doesn’t have time to be distracted by his foppish new secretary, not when there are more important things on his to-do list. Number one: Finish his greatest invention. Number two: Exact revenge on an old enemy.

Neither project is going well. And to add insult to injury, when Julian discovers his secretary’s secret, he starts to have feelings for the little deceiver. That was definitely not on his list. One of his plans is about to go up in smoke...quite possibly literally.

Heathcliffe meets Miss Elizabeth Bennet Not !

An English style story from the English 'shires narrated by an English Dame for an American audience, written by an American writer. Even a modicum of research could've ironed out several of the etiquette errors regarding titles and customs in just the first hour of this book.

One could forgive that if the characters and story hadn't been just dull! Heathcliffe and Miss Elizabeth Bennet are pillars of literature through their strong characterizations and their actions. Clearly these were the models for this book so how come it just turned out dull?

Females dressed as males to escape sounds so amusing and adventurous, such writers as Georgette Heyer have written enjoyable tomes about such a farce, but found no humour or skillfull handling of such scenes in this book. Perhaps I just expected too much and then gave up.
