Summary

It is London 1915, and Great Britain is at war with Germany. Feelings are running high as the liner the Lusitania has just been sunk off the Irish coast and zeppelin raids have begun on London. Stylish lady detective Miss Isabel Hewitt is approached by a young convalescing soldier Captain Alex Fraser. He is anxious to trace his natural mother, as he was given away at birth. Isabel agrees to take on the case even though she suspects the mother may be a friend of hers. Her inquiries eventually lead her to Brighton, where Captain Fraser is staying. But a girl's body has just been found on Hove beach, and soon Isabel is forced to look into it with shocking results..

Miss Hewitt in Brighton

Miss Hewitt is on the case again. She was asked by a young soldier (Captain Fraser) who was on leave convalescing. He wanted Miss Hewitt to trace his birth mother as he was given away at birth. This led Miss Hewitt and pastry her Pug dog down to Brighton. Unfortunately, when she arrived, she found that Captain Fraser had been arrested for the murder of a young girl who was a good friend of his. Miss Hewitt sets out to prove the captain’s innocence and catch the real murderer. Well written and well read.

Excellent Cozy Mysyery

This is the second of the Miss Hewitt Investigates mysteries and so far I liked this one best. Lots of well thought out characters and historical references and settings. Miss Hewitt is charming and intelligent and is a cross between miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes. The narrator is excellent and has an amazing ability to swap between accents for the different characters that baffles me! I wish I could do that! Highly recommended cozy mystery.
