Summary

Make sure the kids aren't around! Just because you're a grown-up doesn't mean you can't enjoy the art of the children's bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 15 short stories written in the style of a classic kid's tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach.

What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. A middle age man is haunted by the voices of his own aging body.

The stories will make you laugh, cry and probably squirm a little. All performed by actors like Patrick Stewart, Alia Shawkat, Elliot Page, Mike Birbiglia, and many more.

Critic reviews

'Darkly Entertaining & Magically Rooted in Reality'

"These amazing stories are darkly entertaining and magically rooted in reality. Each story is read by talented actors that makes the imaginative writers' visions come alive. Nick Offerman's intros set the tone and bring even more humour to this cynical journey through fairy tales rooted in modern reality. Any fan of great story-telling and dark humour may not be lulled to sleep, but they will be thoroughly entertained." - [Claudia Whitt, Audible Member]

Excellent.

I never tire of Matt Brolley. Anything narrated by Angus King is sheer perfection. He take,s all the characters in his stride and makes them real.

Average

Quite American. Not as dark/clever as I’d hoped. Passes the time though. Not what I thought it would be.

Cynically outrageous

Offerman's intros were the best apperitiffs for the stories to come. Bar maybe two, all tales had me in stiches.
Suffice to say, l was unable to fall asleep...

You can't do everything

Actors and various other celebrities get a benefit that other common folks don't. They can try their hand at this and that, one of the most notable niches where they show up with great success is comedy. I think Jerry Seinfeld created this notion that if you're in a sitcom, you're a stand-up comedian. It's not often the case. But nevertheless, they are praised, applauded, revered, and celebrated, just due to the fact it's them. It's that character from that show, you know. And that's OK. I think. Or not. Not important. The fact is they can do a lot of things, and as regular mortals, sometimes they succeed, sometimes they fail.
I am not sure who told Nick Offerman he was funny or witty, or maybe he is usually, but in this case, the result was definitely a fail.
The stories are not interesting. There is not a single thing that is funny, in the entire series. The delivery makes Nick sound like a part of the human body that I probably can't mention here, but you get the picture. Everything is forced, from the intros to the stories themselves.
But hey, it's Nick Offerman and some famous people. Let's give them a book deal.
I'm gonna guess this was the pitch for this particular endeavor.

Don't waste your time, because obviously someone realized they can't charge you for this, so the only thing you'll be wasting is time if you do decide to listen. And time is precious.
Find a better book.
Or go for a walk. And don't listen to this book.
