About this listen

Imagine nine women meeting. Tea and cake are on the coffee table. They’ve come together to share their love of books. They are friends. They trust each other. It’s a happy gathering. What could be more harmless? Scratch the surface and look closer.

One is lonely, one is desperate and one of them is a killer.

When the body of a woman is discovered on a Cambridge common, DCI Barrett and DI Palmer are called to investigate. But the motive behind the crime isn’t clear...and it all leads back to a book club.

As the lies, volatile friendships and tension among the group rise to the surface, DCI Barrett and DI Palmer must work out the motive and track down a cold-blooded killer. But just when they think they are on the right track, a twist in the case throws them off course....

Betsy Reavley is the best-selling author of multiple thrillers including The Optician's Wife, The Quiet Ones and Frailty. This title is an unmissable new whodunnit which will appeal to fans of authors like Cara Hunter, Rachel Abbott, Faith Martin and LJ Ross.

Strange conclusion

Very rushed ending, started well but never really got going could of been better if we had got to know the characters before it ended,

Mediocre writing and dull narration

Sadly, I couldn't finish this book. The stilted narration made mediocre writing unbearable. Glad it was a book included in my membership so no money wasted!

I would recommend this book as it's highly enjoyable and a bit different. Good characterisation. Narration good also.

Keep you in suspense story

Well, what a great ‘Whodunnit’ story. Brilliant tale of murder amongst friends! Narrator was good at the various English accents but a little slow in the general narrative. Plot was superb and many characters to get the mind working. I will look out for this author again.

I love the narrator, it's suits the age of the women in the book. I dud not figure out who was the killer till the very last

too many not particularly nice characters.

the DCI Barrett would have great difficulty in finding his way out of a paper bag and rude with it. the book club members were amazingly bitchy. and there was so little generosity of spirit amongst them that the drive to Johnny 's bedside was quite a surprise and out of character for most of the cast. very annoying use of the American noo pronunciation for knew and new. should be the English nu sound.however the regional accents were good. worth a listen.

Strange narration

Omg the narration was mind bogglingly bad!!! Just horrendous. I mean this in the least offensive way I just think it was a strange choice from the Narrator but most of the characters sounded like they had learning difficulties. It was so uncomfortable to listen to. It was like the narrator was mocking people.
