Summary

An unlikable guest who was abusive to his wife. A marriage in trouble. Someone thought he should be murdered. And he was.

Brett reminds Linc of a time when he could have prevented an abusive spouse from hurting his wife - a close friend - and he’s always regretted it. Did he regret it enough to do something about it years later?

Could it have been the B&B guest who found Amanda irresistible and her husband’s treatment of her frightening? Or even her loving father, worried about his only daughter? It’s up to Brigid and Sheriff Davis to find out just how abusive Brett was and who murdered him.

Plenty of dogs, recipes, and pause-resisting suspense in this, the ninth book in the Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery Series by a two-time USA Today best-selling author.

Murder in the backyard

This was another great little mystery by this author. I like this series because the main characters are so like able and with it being a long running series you get to know them well, so it is like catching up with old friends. The story starts with the murder and then go back in time for the lead up to it and the events that triggered the death. I don't think this book contained as many suspects as usual but it was still a good listen and I applauded the author trying to encourage battered women to come forward to get help.
Brigid and Linc's B&B is up and running smoothly until a married couple comes to stay. The tension between the couple skills over into other guests and even Linc finds it hard not to interfere in there private business. The slightest thing seems to set the husband off and with his temper Linc fears what will happen to the wife when they go back home. Then his body is found in the woods behind the B&B after another fight with his wife. Did she finally snap? Brigid once again helps the sheriff to investigate because this time a killer has struck a little to close to home.
I like the fact that the author has stuck with this narrator and think by doing this that it adds continuity to the series. Oh and she does a good job.
