Summary

When a retired teacher and her bestie join a training class with the goal of walking a breast cancer charity race, they run into a speed bump when a member of the group is murdered in the park. He had no shortage of enemies. Blackmail, harassment, and smuggling top the list of motives.

Susan and Valerie both have detective daughters who, for once, request their mothers’ help. Their inroads with the training group put the amateur sleuths in a position to gather and pass along information.

Meanwhile, Susan receives a mysterious gift on her doorstep and has no idea what it is or who sent it. Valerie questions whether or not it’s time to start dating again after losing her husband. And Susan’s daughter has a secret of her own.

Exercise is murder

I enjoyed this book. This is book 12 in what is a great and interesting mystery series, each book is a standalone mystery and is just as good as the last. I really like the characters who are like able and down to earth, which is just what you want in a great story. They are a nice family unit, the story does have family drama such as a birthday party but the story mainly focuses on the mystery and the drama doesn't detract from the story. In fact it works well and is well plotted out. Your also get some exercise and diet tips. The mystery was interesting and had a number of suspects, I had picked up on the clue which told me who the killer was but I still enjoyed joining Susan and Valerie as they investigated. I am looking forward to the next mystery.
Susan and Valerie join a running group to help lose weight and get them in shape to take part in a fun walk for charity. But before they can do much more than warm up one of the members is found dead. Was it an accident or murder? As members of the group and knowing there mum's will investigate anyway the detectives in charge ask them to talk to the rest of the group. Things get complicated when they start to uncover that everyone has there own secret to keep, a secret that the dead man discovered. Was he blackmailing people? Or did his money come from illegal activity from his shop? and who is the man that seems to be following the group? The newest member also seems to be more interested in asking questions than walking.
Susan soon finds her herself on stakes outs and receiving strange gifts. Will she be able to find the killer before she has to host an engagement party for her son?
I like the narrator. She does a good job with the voices and is a great asset to the series.
