Summary

He was born to write mysteries. Now, he has to solve them.

When Dashiell Dawson Dane moves across the country to a small seaside town called Hastings Rock, he has one goal: get away from his ex. Okay, two goals - because he wouldn't mind a little help from his new boss, celebrity mystery author Vivienne Carver. With Vivienne's mentorship, Dash is sure he can get over this blasted case of writer's block and start telling his own stories again.

The only problem? Vivienne is murdered on Dash's first night at Hemlock House. And when police find a secret passage that connects Dash's bedroom to Vivienne's, they're sure they know who did it. Now Dash has to prove his innocence - and the only way to do that is to figure out who really killed Vivienne Carver.

cute cosy mystery

I'd already read the physical copy but I really enjoyed the audio version. I've actually started listening to audiobooks of books I've already read and it's a different experience. I liked the narrator he brought something indefinable to the story.

The diverse and quirky characters really make the story and it was Agatha Christie-esque in the best possible way.

Highly recommended.

Bring on the cozy!

Somehow Gregory Ashe is able to find narrators that were absolutely made for the books he's written.Andrew Gibson is Dash and you cannot convince me otherwise!

I've made no secret that Ashe is one of my absolute favorite authors...and his first foray into cozy was amazing! I honestly thought I had the mystery figured out at about 85%-and had come up with a hilarious pun for my review- but alas, my hope of being witty was Dashed (see what I did there) because I was COMPLETELY WRONG. Like I might as well have been on the moon I was so far from the answer. So well done Greg, you got me good.

I was thoroughly entertained through the entire story. It had all the wit and banter I can expect from an Ashe story, but somehow it never gets stale as each character is truly unique and just amazing in their own right. I can tell I'm going to get frustrated with Dash, and empathize with Dash, and love Dash in equal measures. And his merry gang of misfits were just fun, there's no other way to put it. I'm also liking the little hints of Officer Bobby (not a cartoon character) as a love interest, but I'm never quite sure what Greg has up his sleeve so I'll just sit back (and anxiously/excitedly) wait for the next book!

A perfectly wholesome blend of Mystery and Suspense

I should know by now not to question Greg.

I was a bit apprehensive diving into this one, given that this is a cozy mystery and a lot of the elements from his usual stories that I love so much would be absent.

However, I needn’t have worried. This is still very much a distinctly Gregory Ashe story, only with added elements of warmth and fuzziness that is often found only in his short stories.

It did take me a few chapters to get into this story but by about half way through I was thoroughly enjoying it.

This was a fun read. I didn’t anticipate the “whodunnit” and I was kept guessing right until the reveal.

The narration for the is was absolutely spot on and I can’t wait to hear more .

I am very much looking forward to the rest of this series. Such great supporting characters ( I’m not sure though, if shaw and Millie should cross paths EVER - Has anyone seen trolls..when poppy meets her sister viva..😳?- be afraid. Be very afraid.)

Ps : I ❤️ Bobby 🥹

Another new and fabulous series from Gregory Ashe

Another wonderful new series from Gregory Ashe, this time a bit of a departure for him in that this a Cosy Mystery. But, as usual I was not disappointed even though I was just a little sceptical to begin with. I wondered how this master of drama would pull it off. Of course I should have known better - he can pull anything off he sets his mind to.

After getting my head around Gregory Ashe’s eclectic bunch of characters and finally managing to get their names straight, I quickly settled down to enjoy Mystery Magnet.

Dashiell (call me Dash) Dawson Dane arrives in the small seaside town of Hastings Rock to take up a position as assistant to the renowned mystery author, Vivienne Carver, and is almost immediately plunged into a murder - her murder in fact.

Dash, himself a mystery writer, though at present suffering a severe case of writers block, quickly realises that he must find her killer, because if he doesn’t, he is apparently the only name in the frame for the murder.

Gregory Ashe’s choice of narrator, Andrew Gibson, is absolutely perfect for witty, snarky, Dash and the cast of diverse and fascinating characters. I recognised his voice immediately as one I love listening to, albeit in a different genre. Andrew Gibson’s vocal range is impressive for both the female and male characters and I’m more than happy he’s been added to this writer’s list of narrators. A dream team for sure. I’m looking forward to the next books in The Last Picks series if this is the quality of writing/performance we can expect.
Highly recommended.

Awesome book, great narrator

Like everything Gregory Ashe writes, this is another fantastic series. I like how this author writes, the plot is sublime and the characters are so well crafted, I love it!

Dawson accepts a new job to overcome his writer's block, but is surprised by the death of his boss, the writer Vivienne Carver. Everything points out to him as the murderer, and he must prove it was not him.

The narration was very well done, giving more emotion to the book.
