Summary
In einer regnerischen Nacht nimmt Privatdetektiv Cal Weaver auf der Landstraße nahe der Niagarafälle eine junge Anhalterin im Auto mit. Das Mädchen mit Namen Claire ist eine Bekannte seines kürzlich verstorbenen Sohnes. Sie wirkt verängstigt und nervös. Bei einem kurzen Zwischenstopp steigt nicht Claire, sondern eine Doppelgängerin ins Auto. Erst unterwegs bemerkt Cal den Unterschied. Als er anhält und die Unbekannte nach ihrem Namen fragt, verlässt diese fluchtartig das Auto. Am nächsten Tag bekommt Cal Besuch von der Polizei: Claire ist verschwunden... und plötzlich steht Cal unter Verdacht.
