About this listen
After years of seeing her sisters suffer at the hands of an abusive prince, Marra—the shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter—has finally realized that no one is coming to their rescue. No one, except for Marra herself. Seeking help from a powerful gravewitch, Marra is offered the tools to kill a prince—if she can complete three impossible tasks. But, as is the way in tales of princes, witches, and daughters, the impossible is only the beginning. On her quest, Marra is joined by the gravewitch, a reluctant fairy godmother, a strapping former knight, and a chicken possessed by a demon. Together, the five of them intend to be the hand that closes around the throat of the prince and frees Marra's family and their kingdom from its tyrannous ruler at last.

Very satisfying
Loved it! Slow to get started but good ending! Loved the characters, especially the chickens! A bit open-ended, room for a sequel?

Unusual and engaging
Not my usual cup of tea, but I found myself thoroughly engaged by the story, and the beautiful narration by a soft American voice. Again, not an accent normally to my taste. This is A fairy tale for adults set in an alternate world and provides excellent escapism.

cosy fantasy story
I loved this story, nettle and stone is a beautifully told fairy tale which will take you away to that nostalgic storyland of childhood, yet manages to avoid well. trodden tropes.

Massively enjoyable
I picked this on a whim as it was free and I really enjoyed it very much. The author doesn't spend time faffing around and jumps straight into the plot with intriguing and often laugh out loud surprises. I'll be checking out more from this author for sure.

Great story, super narrator
I haven't read anything from this author before but I really enjoyed the story. I'll be looking up more of their books.
The narrator was super too. Really easy to listen to, very clear and she has great range in voices. She puts really good emotion into her narration too. I really enjoyed listening to her. Great performance.

A really good story.
This is a well written tale, full of the strange and unusual, of magic, curses and blessings. It is a story about relationships, about expectations and doing what needs to be done, and about character; maybe mostly about character.
The narration was excellent, bringing the characters and places to life, and enhancing the quality of the writing.
It is a book that takes you out of yourself in a really enjoyable way, the trajectory isn't too obvious and there are unexpected developments along the way.
I will be looking for more from this author.

A dark fairytale esque quest
This a contender for my fav book of the year !
This was an amazingly dark and weird fairytale that struck the right chords with me. I loved how it took all the well used fairy tale tropes and twisted them, making them more palatable for a modern audience. I also loved its discussion of Domestic Abuse and the cyclical nature of it. Overall just a wonderful book ! After a small blip from Kingfisher, theyve given me two absolutely fantastic reads.
