Summary

Lord Ferdinand Dudley is accustomed to getting what he wants... that is, until he appears at the door of Pinewood Manor, attempting to claim his rightful estate, and is met by the bewitching fury of Lady Viola Thornhill. She refuses to cede him the home she calls her own. He refuses to leave. So the contest begins. Each day under the same roof brings its share of frustration... and temptation. But Viola knows it is a battle she cannot afford to lose. Marriage is out of the question, and she will be no man’s mistress, even as Dudley’s unnerving presence threatens to melt her resolve. Against his better judgment, Lord Ferdinand Dudley is beguiled. This maddening beauty has stirred him as no woman had before. And now he is bound and determined to make her his own.

Another great listen.

Narrator great as always. Storyline good but uncertain whether would be entirely credible but lovely nonetheless. The matter of the codicil - a legal document that acts as a supplement to a person's last will and testament is indeed credible. Such instances - as in the book can happen. It's disgraceful how relatives can deny the true wishes of departed loved ones. But they often do without regard. Shameful!

Another different slant on the mistress theme

Loved the threat and solution in different levels of the story. Thanks for both Mary and Rosalind for another gorgeous escape from the mundane.

Enjoyable, but perhaps a little long

I already like Mary Balogh books and have ready probably most of them. This isn't my favourite series, but it's enjoyable anyway.

As usual, Rosalyn Landor is the perfect narrator and as we know, the narrator can make or break a book - wait until you get to book 3... Overall I'd recommend the series

Deliberately maintaining problems

Nice story but quite annoying. The tension in the story is artificially achieved by the main character refusing help, withholding essential information, and thus maintaining her problems, for no apparent reason other than an author trying to captivate her audience.

An ugly story

The heroine is a well known and very exclusive courtesan, the hero a virgin and brother to a duke. The they can find acceptance to their marriage and an HEA under the duke's protection in Regency England is stretching reality beyond the realms of fantasy.
