Summary

In 1991, five wannabe Mancunian musicians came together and cracked the spark that ignited the explosion which became Oasis. The band went from obscurity to a global phenomenon in the space of a year, achieving world-wide recognition and selling over 70 million records. What started out as five young lads with a common dream of becoming rock stars eventually disintegrated into in-fighting, clashes of egos, and financial disputes. In 1995, following the release of Definitely Maybe - the fastest-selling debut of all time - things came to a head and drummer Tony McCarroll left the band.

In this candid and hilarious book, Tony tells one of the most in-depth rock 'n' roll stories of modern times. He reveals the truth about the early years before the band was even formed; he tells of the drinking and drug consumption. Plus, he talks of his much-publicized rift with Noel Gallagher. Tony's recollections include stories involving David Beckham, Prince, Eric Cantona and John McEnroe.

Great insight

An interesting take on life in Oasis spoilt only by the narrator's pronunciation of MIthet, MAncunion and Lowry. Oh and his accents weren't up to much either. Great memories and well written.

enlightening and entertaining

As an Oasis fan it was great to get an insight into its humble beginnings. Great to hear an alternative story to the one Noel has being telling for years

like I was there

This was an amazing journey, I actually felt like I was stood in the corner watching everything unfold . The detail , the comedy, the piss takes it was so so good . I actually felt kicked out in the cold when it ended . Such a good book and the feeling it's as close to the truth as you're going get is undeniable. The character description of everyone rings true even to today . Thankyou Tony for probably the most honest story we will ever get about the beginning of one of Britain's Biggest, funniest, life changing and best people band, we as a generation, will ever see again .

I got the Gallagher brothers the wrong way round

different side to the Gallaghers. We all have been led to believe that Liam is a snidey loud obnoxious prat but this is clearly wrong. Liam is much more sensitive and intelligent than the Oasis media machine which leads us to believe.

Surprisingly this seems to have come from Noel Gallagher. I always thought Noel was intelligent kind and generous man who wrote some fantastic songs and musical pieces. However he is portrayed here as a belligerent selfish bully who may have obtained success on the back of plagiarism.

As it was.

Facinating insight leaves me not wanting to meet my hero because the truth isnt like I thought it was, Noel was asked in an interview about the accuracy of this book and to my amazement he said , "it's about right yeh"

The revealing truth about Oasis.

I found this book fascinating and revealing. If you are a big fan of Noel Gallagher you may not want to read this account as it paints him in a truly awful light, but I have no doubt whatsoever that this is a truthful story. Thanks Tony for sharing the truth at last.

Awesome

If you are into the roots of a band and how songs are crafted this is a brilliant read . I'm not a major fan , Married with Children is my fave , but was intrigued about what happened. By the end of the book it almost felt like being kept awake in hotels was what really got under Noel's skin. They should have had a quiet corridor and a rowdy one. You have to feel for Tony , his drumming was noted for its precise timing. He wasn't technical, but nobody in the band was . Noel isn't even a lead guitarist tbh and Guigs only played 1 string bass. Shame that the these school mates couldn't keep it together.
