Summary
Every week, I rise from the dead....
Headshot has just gone live and the whole world's playing the new Artificial Reality blockbuster. Unfortunately, unless you can buy your way onto the Survivor's side, you can only participate as a Zombie. Each week, the forces gather to tear each other down to the bone...until, at week's end, the Apocalypse is reset.
Ryan's played the Beta for months, but now that his favorite game has launched, he finds it consuming his life - even as he struggles to decipher whether or not there's actually a way to succeed if you're not willing to Pay to Win.
But he's got bigger problems to deal with. There's something sinister going on beneath the surface of Headshot, and it looks like he's wrapped up in it whether he likes it or not.
Don't miss the first book in a thrilling post-apocalyptic LitRPG series featuring hordes of undead. It's perfect for fans of Daniel Schinhofen, Tao Wong, and Chris Carney.

Awesome.
Awesome book. Saw this posted on Facebook and though "yeah why not..." had a spare token begging. Glad I did. After recently watching Sword art online I was a bit worried it would be a ripoff. It was not. Great take on VR gaming that is taking root. character was well written and I got a bit creeped out how excited he got about eating people. Sigh of good writing and good voice acting. Got the second book straightaway.

Really enjoyable!!
A great story that kept my attention throughout!
I really enjoyable the opposite approach of this story from the zombie player side and jumped straight into book 2 at the end!
Sometimes the game mechanics didn’t seem consistent (shouldn’t he have levelled from close proximity bonus when in the Hummer?) and at times it was a bit too ‘then and us, rich vs poor’, but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book to anyone!
Vikas’ narration perfectly suits the characters and pacing of the book!
This is my honest opinion of a free review copy.

Oddly satisfying
Ever wanted to play a zombie? No, well listen to this book and it will change your mind. I received a review copy of this book and found a much deeper book than I was expecting. A simple story of an RPG in which you play a zombie, somehow manages to provide an entertaining social critique.

Felt like I was there
Great narration, I liked his voicing of the characters and of the game itself. and then you have the narration which is first person, and therefore is also the voice of the main character.
I don't play many computerised RPGs, but I do sometimes watch other people. I did used to play the dice based games (I'm old).
I got really into this story, and I cared what happened to the player's character. I cared about Ryan too, but not quite as much!
it isn't easy to make what could have been a commentary gripping, but this is. I am eagerly waiting to start listening to book #2, which is already in my library.

different in a good way
firstly since I am a gamer I loved this. I understood the references to gaming. also as a gamer I hated the early chapters of world building as I thought it repetitive, I understand why it's there it's to explain to people who may have not been into gaming the whole world they where entering.
secondly repeated times of player this player that has accepted your help or joined horde was also annoying. it could of been cut down.
now to the good parts. the narrator's amazing it is set from one person's own world view with little interaction with others which was hard at first for me to cope with as most books and stories you have lots of characters interact. if you get past the early chapters you will love this.rich Vs poor themes are here and while I don't live in the USA to know the areas I speaks of in gane it felt like I did

Excellent LitRPG Zombie Gamelit
How do you manage to make a Zombie Gamelit interesting, quite easy seemingly , all you do is give a first viewpoint from a Zombie trying to survive destruction in his Hometown LA.
The action is pretty good and a lot better than i expected as you are soon caught up in the characters challenges.
The best bit is the overall strategy used and how the Zombie stereotypes are used to evolve different characters.
A throughly enjoyed listen and Vikas does his usual professional job.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts.

Slow start but as the story grows it gets so good!
I started listening to this story and I enjoyed the start, as the player struggles with daily live vs this very addictive game.
The game mechanics are explained as the main character understands them and as he learns more about the new editions more options open up and without spoiling anything then come some unexpected plot additions which keeps this story interesting, fresh and entertaining.
The narrator is excellent and I'm really looking forward to the 2nd in the trilogy.

Takes awhile to get into.
I struggled with this one and I'm not sure why.
I absolutely love Zombies and I really like Vikas Adam as a narrator.
But it still took many, many tries to get through this one.

A Surprisingly Enjoyable Listen
*Recieved for Free*
This is my first experience with the litRPG sub genre, i will admit that that before listening to this, I had didnt have much interest in it. The idea of a story literally revolving around someone playing a video game, complete with stats, seems a bit like a litaray form of Let's Play.
So, was Headshot any good? - Suprisingly, yes
The story isnt just about someone playing a game, its about a persons disillusionment with the real world. The main protagonist has so many grievances, he's incredibly difficult to sympathise with. He is playing a free to play game, and hates those that have paid to play. He begrudges those with money, those with power, and even those that dont take the game seriously. To him, the game is everything. Once you realise that this is based on a near future setting, and that everyone seems to be playing the game, it makes more sense. Theres a section describing how the guy turns up for work, and nearly everyone else has taken the day off sick to play Headshot - this kind of sums it up.
This is a story about someone who feels let down by society, and that by playing the game, he can actually be someone (which, he does, kind of). This doesnt make him likeable however, just helps justify his actions.
Ive never listended to anything Vikas Adam before, and I must say well done to the guy. He actually honestly portays the charactor perfectly, fully putting across the protagonists hatred for pretty much everything in the real world. The performance is really what carries the whole book, as the actual story is not anything more than Ok.
I would say that Headshot is worth giving a go, but takes time to get anywhere. If you can get through the first few chapters, you will easily ride it out to the end.
This hasnt made me a fan of the litRPG genre, but it also hasnt put me off it. A word to the wise however, it clearly states that its a trilogy, so dont expect a complete story here. This book certainly puts itself across as the first act, and with everything in place, could actually be a very good follow up
Finally "Matthew Siege" - thats got to be a pen name. If you are going to pick a pen name, dont choose something that makes you sound like a charactor from an 80s Cop Drama
