About this listen

I made a promise to the enemy… and I intended to keep it.

Thank the goddess I have my pride and my wonderful, amazing mate—whose patience matches no other—because the world is in chaos, and Cosmo is my rock, my safe place inside the storm. If only I could find the time between witches, work, politics, and family to prove it to him.

The Shifter and Magi Equality Act is in full effect, supposedly making us equals, but the people themselves—the humans—are still treating us as lesser. Every time I turn around, we’re running into trouble between humans and non-humans.

To make matters worse, witches are everywhere in Fairview City, and the Red Cloth is encouraging humans to join their forces and challenge the equality my people have fought so hard to get.

And now, Anderson is back. Back and gunning for me.

But he doesn’t realize I’m gunning for him, too.

Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and FINAL book in the MM urban fantasy series, The Magi Accounts. It’s recommended to listen to the series in order because the romance and plot progress throughout the series.

Wonderful series conclusion

An emotionally wrenching and completely satisfying conclusion to this long running series. The world building has always been fantastic and this final book manages to take it to another level. Nothing has been settled among all the factions when we begin this one. There are still those trying to stir up deadly trouble and undo any peace and equality that has been achieved. I adored all the maneuvering and machinations our characters had to contend with in this one. Zachary Zaba gives a wonderful performance in this series closer.

A stunning finale

I can't believe it's finally time to say goodbye to the Ono-Nai pride. These people have grown so much from when I first met them, experienced some of life's worst and best moments together, and built a tight-knit family who are all committed to fighting for good. This last chapter of their journey put me through the emotional wringer, but what a captivating, heart-pounding, and satisfying conclusion it was. While the last book was all about the shifters and magi gaining equality with humans, this story was about finishing the battle against the Red Cloth once and for all. I knew their fight wasn't going to be easy, but the stakes felt so high and only grew impossibly higher with every reveal of just how vile the Red Cloth witches were. Some of the things the Ono-Nai's witnessed in this book were truly horrific, gore and death on a level that's stomach turning just to think about. I was glued to my seat, unable to tear myself away without knowing how things would end up, hoping against hope that Madeo, Jude, and Cosmo would figure out a miracle to turn the tide in their favor. I'm so impressed by the way Michele Notaro crafted this final journey into an epic battle with twists and turns and pacing that felt urgent but not rushed as the characters tried to get one step ahead of their enemies.

I was already 1000% invested in seeing the Ono-Nai's protect the world from the threat of the Red Cloth, but then they made things personal in a terrifying final showdown that left the Ono-Nai's fighting for their lives in their own backyard. The climax of that battle took my breath away, and I swear I've never yelled at an author more than I did for those heart-stopping pages, but Michele Notaro's characters are fighters and they didn't let me down or leave things unfinished. And it wasn't all tense, suspenseful plotting or fights. I also got to watch Cosmo and Mads take the next step forward in their relationship. I watched Logan use his brilliant brain to find a new way to combat the taragorians that flipped the TRD's old practices on their heads. I basked in sweet weekends spent with family, hot cocoa movie nights, silly hide and seek games and enough love to fill a mansion. It was those treasured moments that I clung to when the odds seemed stacked against them, and I know it was that love that gave these people the conviction to push themselves to the absolute limits to protect each other. I'm still reeling from the ending to the Ono-Nai's story, but for as traumatizing and scary as the buildup was, the relief of knowing the fight was over was immense. My heart has never felt fuller than it did as I was reading the epilogue and seeing how relaxed and happy everyone was. If there's ever a group who deserved to ride off into the sunset together, it's the Ono-Nais, and what a sweet sendoff it was. Major kudos to Michele Notaro for closing out another incredible series with characters who are going to stick in my mind for a long time.

Exceptional.

Incredible!

Sad to see the end but this pride and found family is going to stick with me forever. I loved the foundations, sass, and togetherness of every couple involved. The writing is dynamic and the twists and turns so satisfying. I loved this whole series so much!! Exceptional.

Absolutely Fantastic!

I loved this absolutely fantastic ending to the Magi Accounts. The story of Mads, Jude, Cos, and all their blood and found family has been an arduous journey and struggle for healing, growth, respect, and equality. I love the story and especially the way Mads grew and learned to love and trust others besides his dyad. He has definitely come a long way! This book is the final chapter in the struggle, and - fair warning - there are some tough scenes, including some horrible flashbacks/dreams of the rape and torture Mads and Jude suffered during their time at the Magi compound growing up. If you are sensitive, you may want to skip those scenes. Andersen really has much to answer for! There are continuing battles against the terragorians, although some intriguing new tactics are developed that change how they are handled. The witches, led by the Supreme Rose and Andersen continue to be Mads's primary enemy and he is propelled forward by his promise to end Andersen. Some surprising revelations and twists are revealed, and the final battle is both compelling and heart-wrenching. It gets very dark, and I wondered if the HEA I wanted would be ripped away from me. (No spoilers. Read/Listen for yourself.)

The narration was very good. Zachary Zaba provides excellent voice to all the characters, especially the sometimes prickly and sarcastic Madeo, showcasing equally well his determination, vulnerability, strength, and resilience.

A Purrfect Ending to an Amazing Series! Excellent Story & Narration🎧

I absolutely love this fascinating world Michele Notaro created for her amazing “Magi Accounts” series, an urban fantasy with incredible world building, character growth and development, magical storylines that includes equally fascinating characters, including shifters, witches, mage, and other paranormal beings and monsters. And what makes this series so amazing are the characters, characters I adored, Cosmo, a lion shifter and Madeo “Mads” a Magi and his sidekick and connected dyad, Jude, as well as various other secondary/support characters and members of the Ono-Nai pride, a found family of shifters and magi. This is the last book of the series and is an action-packed story with ups-and-downs, and thrilling and suspenseful moments that take you to the edge of your seat. An ending that is worthy of these amazing characters and one that will stay with me for a very long time. It was not always easy for them, but I loved how far they have come, in society and amongst the pride. There is never a dull moment in this cleverly plotted story, and it has plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and a wonderful romance. Michele Notaro, thank you for this amazing story and wild ride.
🎧📚🎧 Zachary Zaba did a fantastic job voicing the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them. His portrayal of the character was spot on and I loved how he took each role and made it his own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Zaba is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another fabulous listen.

A fitting end to a fantastic series

Getting to listen to this series has been a complete joy and Zachary's portrayal of the characters along with the mix of lighthearted and sweet along with ones filled with pain and tension is just amazing. I'm very willingly pulled along for the ride and just want to take it in in one go. Cannot recommend enough!
I became a fan of Michele Notaro's paranormal romance/urban fantasy after reading the first book in the Ellwood Chronicles series and it has just gotten better and better. The Magi accounts has been full of action, drama, relationship drama and family fun but here I found that I really felt the heart of Mads come out. He shows just how deeply he feels for those who have become his family and pride, just how much a part of his heart and soul Cosmo is, and when it comes to Jude, there is no man he would rather have as his ride or die, his partner in crime at home and work, and the person who makes his magic shine.
This finale is a fitting tribute to the journey that everyone involved has been on but Mads, Jude and Cosmo especially. Mads and Cosmo's relationship came from nothing, only really moving forward in the beginning because of how determined Cosmo was but not pushing as that just takes everything ten steps back where Mads is concerned. Here we get to read the culmination of their relationship, their bond becoming stronger and their family even bigger. The dyads may have their own mates now but Mads' and Jude's connection remains true.
The storyline that has been developing across the series involving the witch terrorist group, The Red Cloth, finally reaches it's climax as they show their true powers and Mads works to keep the promise he made to Bobby Anderson the last time they saw each other. This book isn't without it's upsetting scenes (please read the trigger warnings given by the author) as memories are shared from Mads and Jude's past as well as a several pretty intense battle scenes that affect both the characters in the book and the reader.
Michele's writing is absorbing from the very start, drawing you into the world she has created and grabbing you with the fabulously entertaining characters and engaging scenes throughout the book. I'm just hoping it's not the last we hear from this group as I've come to love every one of them but Mads's snarky attitude is the one to miss the most. This is a series to be read/listened to in order as there is a series plot arc and relationship developments throughout
