About this listen
Out of the Silence is a powerful revenge thriller which will appeal to fans of authors like Victoria Selman, Chris Collet and J.B. Turner.
Star investigative reporter Ralph Buchanan’s glory days are behind him. His newspaper has banished him abroad, not knowing the greatest moment of his long career is waiting for him there.
When Simone Jasnin asks him to help expose a grave injustice, he finds himself embroiled in a harrowing tale that began in a dusty rural settlement, setting in motion a chain of events that will change the lives of everyone involved.
Seven years later, members of a prominent family are being brutally murdered. The only clue is a hand-carved wooden bangle left at the scene of each crime.
As the list of suspects grows and the tension mounts, Ralph realises the answers might be closer to home than he ever thought possible. Solving the mystery will put him back on top, but at what cost?

One of the best books I have ever read
The story line was well built, relatable characters, and excellent narration. I will definitely be reading more titles by the author.

Interesting mystery
I enjoyed the cleverly written vengeance killing, how it is carried out and really making them pay for their appalling treatment. I didn’t guess who did it either and I liked the characters in the story.

HEARTBREAKING
Sadly still a true and current story, but a big thank you to the author for keeping it in the conscience of those who should and can make a difference. Performance was five stars as usual...

The oppression of women in Pakistan!
This was not quite what I was expecting from the Mystery, Thriller, Suspense genre listing or the books synopsis, as the crimes [honour killings] and the Scottish investitive journalist's involvement don't occur till nearly half-way through, part 3 of the book. Never-the-less, this is a story well worth listening to, one that will stay with me.
Out of the Silence is partially a sorrowful love story. Poor village boy Jamil loves equally poor village girl Afra; girl is sold [bride price] into an arranged marriage; heartbroken boy gives her half of a set of twelve ebony bangles promising "Where you are, I am ...", then leaves the village to make his way in the world. Both end up in the city, Lahore, unaware of each others presence there, hers is an awful fate, his good fortune. The stories mystery element lies years later when a series of revenge attacks against one family start, their trade mark, a single bangle left at the crime scene. Who are the perpetrators? In the end it's a very satisfactory answer. The washed up journalist's role, a red herring.
This well written novel's backbone is men's barbaric treatment of women in Pakistan, their oppression, degradation. It's at times a harrowing tale because though a work of fiction, it's roots are founded on truth, on conduct that's still occurring in muslim countries & communities world wide.

Highly recommended
Excellent plot which kept you guessing. Anchored in the real life abuse and subjugation of Pakistani women which added depth to the book.

The gravity of of storey
A griping tale, maybe hinged on truth. Not my usual listen. Did not guess the conclusion.
