About this listen

Captain Dominika Egorova of the Russian Intelligence Service (SVR) has returned from the West to Moscow. She despises the men she serves, the oligarchs, crooks, and thugs of Putin’s Russia. What no one knows is that Dominika is working for the CIA as Washington’s most sensitive penetration of SVR and the Kremlin.

As she expertly dodges exposure, Dominika deals with a murderously psychotic boss; survives an Iranian assassination attempt; escapes a counterintelligence ambush; rescues an arrested agent and exfiltrates him out of Russia; and has a chilling midnight conversation in her nightgown with President Putin. Complicating these risks is the fact that Dominika is in love with her CIA handler, Nate Nash, and their lust is as dangerous as committing espionage in Moscow. And when a mole in the SVR finds Dominika’s name on a restricted list of sources, it is a virtual death sentence....

Change in narrator

Another high quality addition to the series. Not much to criticise here. However, I thought it an odd choice to have a completely different narrator for the middle book of the trilogy.
If you like to binge listen, going straight from the first book tio this one, then it's rather jarring to have such drastically different voices for characters you'd already coined to know well, like Gable.

Very exciting ending

I enjoyed the second book in the trilogy and will certainly read the third. Very satisfying ending with everything and everyone properly in their place...read on!

Great book, dreadful narrator

After listening to Red Sparrow I was very disappointed to find that Palace of Treason had a different narrator who seemed unable to pronounce so many important names correctly. She pronounced Dominika like the country Dominica, en route pronounced to rhyme with Ben Snout and many many other pronunciations which I found consistently irritating. These inaccuracies are an insult to an intelligently written book.
The Russian accents are also rather irritating and unnecessary.
I am so eternally grateful that the third book has been narrated by Jeremy Bobb as I would not wish to listen to more of Jennifer Vuletic unless her narration was quality assessed before publication.

Brilliant story and narration

Really enjoyed this audible book. Super story brilliantly narrated. JV is probably the best narrator that I have heard. She provides real atmosphere to a great escapist book. Have bought the trilogy

Another gripping read

I loved the second part of the Red Sparrow Trilogy, a little predictable in places, but was unsure right until the end of just how it might turn out. The author has a real talent of descriptive writing, whether it is the food, the torture or the sex, the detail is brilliant. My only disapointment was the change in narrator for the second book, the narrator builds a picture of the characters, and in a series, you get to know the characters and that is what leads you on to the next book, sometimes the CIA characters in The Palace of Treason were like a Marx Brothers sketch,or dare I say it, Statler and Waldorf from the muppets!
But I will be going for the third part regardless.

Better than the first book

I preferred this to the first book, people have commented on the recipes at the end of each chapter I like that not only to try them but is different rather than ploughing into the next chapter. The story is a little predictable in places but I listen while travelling and it provided good entertainment. Like many books it's each to their own, some will like it some will not.

The best contemporary spy story I've ever read

This story is a true page turner with enough ups and downs to keep you hooked throughout. The narrator is superb, bending her voice to male and female characters with equal aplomb.
I could have done without the recipes at the end of each chapter as they broke the narrative thread at times.
I'm going straight to book 3.

a gripping sequel to red sparrow.

I initially found it hard to tune in to the narrator's accent and I found it difficult at first but after a while I got used to it and it was a very good storyline with lots of twists and action. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the trilogy.
