There’s no easy way to die…

Unknown to DI Luc Callanach and the newly promoted DCI Ava Turner, a serial killer has Edinburgh firmly in his grip. The killer is taking his victims in the coldest, most calculating way possible – engineering slow and painful deaths by poison, with his victims entirely unaware of the drugs flooding their bloodstream until it’s too late.

But how do you catch a killer who hides in the shadows? A killer whose pleasure comes from watching pain from afar? Faced with their most difficult case yet, Callanach and Turner soon realise they face a seemingly impossible task…

Another brilliant book

This is the third book in the Inspector Callanach stories and doesn’t disappoint... it wasn’t quite as exiting or nail bitingly tense as the two previous books but it was still a brilliant listen. I feel like I know the characters and I am drawn into their world and care about what happens to them. I am going to download the fourth book after writing this review, and I feel sad that I am coming to the end of the series of books so far. I just hope Helen Fields keep writing as I want to know what happens to the characters and if they have the happy ending that I think we all are hoping for..! Highly recommend this book.

That was a perfect storyline

Even more fast paced than the prior stories and more action and not without violence or tense moments of terror but more subtle than before. It suited the story to get where it needed to be and to resolve and solve the murders not as much to pure effect and horror of the follower of the story as it felt before. Very heavy laden on the personal side as well but not only doom and gloom, and all is open to develop even further maybe less predictable as it felt before. The twists and turns were captivating even with the murderer in full sight the storylines switched so quickly that what seemed unavoidable to happen didn’t happen the way it looked like and it turned again and again until all seemed possible. I changed my view on the story almost each chapter and if I had bets on it I might have lost more than I’d won in the end. The books are quite long in comparison so the suspense is growing immensely and so is the temptation to speed it up but that won’t work as too much bits of info and insight get lost. It’s not an easy task to keep the reader interested and hooked for that length but I could not imagine these stories shorter. On to the next one as soon as I have my breath back and calmed my blood pressure down again.

PERFECT ENTERTAINMENT!

Part three- and just as thrilling as the first two! Love the complex characters, the burgeoning relationships and strong story lines. Just enough gore but not overly horrific, the storyline shines through. Roll on the fourth!!!

Too Patchy And Difficult To Follow

For an old dodderer I have to acknowledge that this DI Callanach tale might be described as a touch over ambitious. I've much enjoyed the two earlier stories but I found Perfect Death hopped between cases and individual elements too much to follow readily. I shall read Books 4 and beyond!!
