nice collection of stories
this was a nice journey through time. I loved the way the different tales told the story of life, even mundane life in the future. excellent imagination from the author. I thought the way it came together at the end was a little drawn out however, but that didn't ruin what was a compelling listen

Huge vision, beautifully realised
A compellingly complex story, Peter F Hamilton always shows us brilliantly imagined societies with technology at the heart; a feasible extension of today. This book's structure allows a combination of hard sci-fi, police procedural and mystery all in one. Can't wait for book 2.

A little derivative of his previous works
Yeah, more portal transit. I think ultimately I preferred the Pandora's Star series more. That was about elevating the species - look where we got to by Void and here seems of a similar tack. I'll finish them though and contrast fully at the end.

A new style of p f Hamilton
A change to the typical p f Hamilton books. It takes a little while to get into but very well written as ever and very enjoyable, all comes together superbly at the end ready for the next in the series

An story of great depth and very well read.
The intricate plot is imaginative, innovative and far reaching, difficult for science fiction to achieve today. I also enjoyed the performance especially.

The narration is unusual, but I quite like it
I nearly didn’t buy this book due to the comments about the narrator. However I then realised that it was the same narrator I had recently listened to, and enjoyed.
Yes the narration style is perhaps unusual especially if you are not a British English speaker, but I quite like it.
The story is as good as would be expected from Hamilton.

It was great... mostly.
Reminiscent of old crime/detective stories where you have a group of strangers connected to a case, each one takes their turn to explain who they are and how they got wrapped up in it all to the detective.
This time around the strangers are all part of a team brought together as a research team of sorts, trying to solve an even larger mystery as our main character is trying to identify one of the members for his own agenda along the way. . Everyone here are interesting, and has a lot of flair to them. Great characters.
That part of the book is great...the boring part of the book is every chapter happening at Juloss, where all the characters are basically one dimensional steriotypical teen YA hero types..and that's just not my cup of tea.
..another issue is that there can be a lot of names to keep track of when every person shares their background with their own cast of characters.
With that said I will probably be reading more of the series over time.
It's generally intriguing, and well voice acted.

Shakespearean narration not for me
The preamble of this book sounded so appealing that I made the fatal error or purchasing quickly rather than listening to the preview. The narrator annunciates every sentence with a skill that probably comes from years of performing on stage. Unfortunately, half an hour into my commute, I was so on edge with the issue that I was expecting something to happen every single second that I had to end the pain. Audible producers have yet to understand that the vast majority of its customers prefer to listen to a book as we'd read it ourselves, not imagining ourselves sat in the Roundhouse in the 16th Century. There's a reason R.C. Bray is one of the most respected narrators of audiobooks - he's one of us.
I am considering purchasing the book on Kindle as the initial story appeal has not been lost. I gave this presentation 3* as I don't know whether it's good, bad or indifferent - I simply couldn't get past the first chapter.
