Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Her life is so full, so why is she hungry?

For Piglet – an unshakable childhood nickname – getting married is her opportunity to reinvent. Together, Kit and Piglet are the picture of domestic bliss – effortless hosts, planning a covetable wedding ... But if a life looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Thirteen days before they are due to be married, Kit reveals an awful truth, cracking the façade Piglet has created. It has the power to strip her of the life she has so carefully built, so smugly shared. To do something about it would be to self-destruct. But what will it cost her to do nothing?

As the hours count down to their ‘big day’, Piglet is torn between a growing appetite and the desire to follow the recipe, follow the rules. Surely, with her husband, she could be herself again. Wouldn’t it be a waste for everything to curdle now?

Piglet is the searing, unforgettable and original debut which is set to take listeners by storm in 2024.

Critic reviews

‘It takes audacity, all kinds of courage to produce a novel as ferocious and weird as Piglet. The narrative accelerates like nothing else I've read, opening onto dead-end domestic conformity and then driving us all the way out into the wildernesses, where the possibility for liberation, the fulfilment of desires might be discovered. It made me so hungry’ Lamorna Ash, author of Dark, Salt, Clear

‘A high-wire exploration of control, pleasure and desire’ Chloë Ashby

‘A book that tears at the surface of things to reveal the vast, messy truth of a body with a beating heart’ Catherine Newman

Piglet - a great debut

The characters in this book were so interesting and brought to life by the brilliant narration. I enjoyed the premise and the food theme which ran throughout the story. The language used when describing food was incredible and had me looking up certain recipes/menus. Really enjoyed Lottie Hazel’s style of writing and will be looking out for her next novel.

Very gripping from start to finish and really interesting observations about class and gender. Would really recommend.

Dear Lottie im going to have to know what he did!

If like me you hate ambiguity you will be left feeling frustrated by the ending. Something is always alluded to but not explicitly stated. Yes at the heart of this book it’s about social mobility and wanting but overall I was annoyed because it hard to empathise with a character of you don’t fully understand the situation they are in. Also WARNING- THIS BOOK WILL MAKE YOU VERY HUNGRY

Unfortunately disappointing

Although full of suggestions displaying a life of a woman unfulfilled and disappointed, the overall story was quite boring sadly. Predictable…as other readers have said, what was the ‘story’ she was hanging her hat on? Not as good as the intro makes it seem.

Great descriptions of good but poor story

The Nigella like descriptions of food are the highlight of what became a very over laboured metaphor for a woman and her suppressed appetites in life. The characters were very two dimensional and it felt as though the author herself wasn't interested in coming up with a convincing storyline to hang her metaphor on to. very little pay off and not mich explored

Superb story and narration, highly recommend

A thoroughly interesting and inteligently observed concept. Hazell delivers in spades and brilliantly leaves questions unanaswered for the listener to apply thier own lived secrets of betrayal and keeps us on our toes throughout. Hinds narration is perfect drawing us in to the increasing speed of the story. Highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a superb, throught provoking and engaging listen.

consuming is the word...

descriptive and engrossing, yet beautiful depiction of a milestone event that showcases a woman's inability to shake or face her destructive eating disorder.

The food theme was distracting

I found the running theme and metaphor of food just too much. Barely a sentence passed without a reference to food or an entire recipe! I found it distracting when I just wanted to get on with the story.

Sensational. Literally. Literary. Must read.

Exquisite descriptions. Standard chic lit plot, told in a very non-standard way, via food and descriptions that evoke all the senses. Sensational. Must read.
