Summary

Gifted power over life and death, Lysandros has spent millennia in the underworld, listless and alone. The youngest child of Hades and Persephone, he’s been sheltered from the threats in the world above.

Theo Ward hasn’t been so lucky. After watching his mother wither away, he’d do almost anything to have her back. When a messenger appears at the Banneker College of Magic and offers the young professor a chance to save her, Theo can’t pass it up, even if it means going straight into the underworld and dragging her home. But Theo gets more than he bargained for when he crosses paths with the prince of Hades.

Set against the king of Olympus, they must shed their past burdens and learn to trust each other, so they can face down a storm that threatens to wipe the nation’s capital off the map.

Good series starter... the Underworld

I like the world building, based on Greek Gods and a mortal who can descend to the Underworld. Theo is a character on its own. He is taken on the ride of his life and he experiences so much on his journey. Lysandros suffers for who he is, what he is capable of. They are good together. The other characters bring more life to the story and keeps you listening til the very end.

Loved the story!

I'm a big fan of mythology, especially Greek, Roman mythology, so this was right up my alley. This story had the major players of the pantheon - Zeus, Hera, Hades - to name a few. I liked how these characters were written for the modern world.

Theo, a professor of magic, is vying for a tenure position at the college he where he teaches. One day he is given a book that changes the course of his life - he discovers that the Underworld is real. As he finds this out, he meets Lysandros (son of Persephone and Hades) who takes a shine to him. Both men are drawn to each other, but coming from 2 different worlds, they faced obstacles and meddling by the gods.
The gods are great secondary characters - their vanities, selfishness and general trouble-making tendencies translated well into modern times :)
This is a great start to a new series, looking forward to experiencing the rest.
The narration was a little disappointing at first - the narration was a bit fast - (fixed by slowing the speed) - with very little differentiation between the narrative and non-narrative parts. After a while, I got used to the style, helped along by a really captivating story.
I would say this is not a bad way to experience this story.

Great start to a new series

Sam Burns has been a great discovery for me as a reader and I thoroughly enjoy everything of theirs I've read/listened to. This new series is no exception. It's a coauthored book but I couldn't tell you which parts were written by which author and that's an amazing feat.

This is a fun urban fantasy with the Greek gods in modern day America. Oh and there's a twist, some of the mortals have magic. I could do with a little more world-building with regard to the magical element, but the Greek gods segments are rich in details.I

I'd previously read this book and listening to it for my 're-read' it had lost none of the enjoyment that had held my attention in the ebook.

I can't wait to grab the rest of the series as it comes out in any and all formats.

Magical Professor meet Prince of the Underworld

I loved the ebook the I originally read it as I'm a huge mythology buff so this ticked several boxes for me and Zachary Zorba, who I wasn't previously familiar with as a narrator, does a credible job of voicing the characters.
This is a very magic and action-adventure filled tale while Theo, a cute unassuming Professor of Magic theory, meets the son of Hades, a Prince of Death called Lysandros and the two start to fall for each other even as they're drawn into am deeper plot that could spell the end of the world. Highly recommended for lovers of Paranormal, Greek Mythology MM romance.

4.5* of brilliant fantasy

I have always enjoyed stories about Greek Gods and this is a really good one as it concentrates on the Underworld being an integral part of the world and not lesser or where the villains are, there is quite a bit of artistic interpretation as Hades and Persephone in legend don’t have a son, one of our MC’s Lysandros who has the gift to give or take life but is haunted by that power. The mortal that the Gods draw into their games and manipulations is Professor Theodore (Theo) Ward who seems at first as unassuming but over the course of the book discovers and accepts his worth as he can absorb magic - won’t say more about the storyline in fear of saying too much as I could gush about this book and to hear it brought to life by Zachary Zaba was a treat.

I really loved the way that the characters were built to show all different sides to their personalities, how special they are -Theo and Lysandros loved these two, how kind and levelheaded they can be -Hades, how conniving and petty they are -Hermes and Hera to say a few as I said I could go on.

This is the start of what I believe will be a truly epic series, I wait in anticipation for the next instalment.
