Summary

Silas

The fae prince caught my eye the moment I saw him, and no, it didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he was being abducted. It’s not even that Callisto adores the large mount who wants to maim him. Or that every time he smiles, flowers bloom around him. No, there’s something else that draws me to him, though when the kingdom begins to fall apart around us, I realize I’m not the only one who wants him.

But the others want him dead.

With memories of my past hanging over me, I’m trapped between who I want to be and who I need to be to protect Callisto.

Callisto

While being officially crowned prince should be my main concern, something isn’t quite right with the king—unless it’s normal to have an evil mist hanging around you. Then again, who am I to judge when I can poison someone with just a kiss?

When an attack on the royal court leaves me wounded, I have no one to turn to but Silas, but he wants to keep me at a distance… like he’s afraid of me finding out the secrets he holds. Thankfully, with Dandelion (my sweet mount—don’t listen to Silas), a strange and suspicious coin, and Silas’s friend who can speak to animals (who don’t seem interested in speaking to him) at our side, we’re going to tip this fight in our favor and prove that heroes (and love) come in all forms.

Prince of Poison is a standalone title. Books from this series can be enjoyed in any order.

Alice does it again!

I loved this book! I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m a huge Alice Winters fan so took a chance and it was worth it. It was romantic, exciting and funny. What more could you ask for a credit?! I love all of Alice’s books and this was another one I’ll listen to again.
The narration was clever, the story is well paced and it gets a teeny bit spicy.

I found that this was a very enjoyable listen, really good storyline and fantastic characters.
The narration was first class and I only wish there were more of the series on audio.

Really wanted to like it but just didn't...

Ugh, I feel guilty saying this as a long time fan of Alice Winters, but this book did not do it...the characters were all over the place, the plot was chaotic and didn't hold my interest, and I kept zoning out; something about the pacing and writing just wasn't working for me. I was more interested in Dandelion and Maddons budding relationship in the last paragraph of the book than anything else, and can't really remember what happened the entire book even though I've just finished it.
The narrator is what saved this for me from being a complete write off, but I'm starting to feel like recently I'm only enjoying Winters new books because of the narrator, not because they're particularly well written. I miss the days of Within the Mind, Happy Endings and the VRC! Maybe the author is in a creative rut, or has fallen into the same trap as Lily Morton, recycling formulaic plots and writing the same book over and over.....
I won't give up hope yet, but this book has been quite the disappointment 😢

Disappointed but not surprised

It started very well and I was really enjoyed it! But then, it started to drag and I lost interest-and let's not talk about the convoluted "plot twists" towards the end😒. I was like "What?? 🙄".

Anyways, I don't know what happened but I have this same problem with most of the author's recent books. It's really a shame because I have ADORED (Medium Trouble series, In Darkness series, Monstrous Intent) or really ENJOYED (VRC 1-3, Hitman's Guide 1-4, Winsford Shifters series) most of her past books.

But recently I have been bored and have found the books to be just ok. And Prince of Poison fell into that category.
