Er will hinein in den Abgrund, »wo Feuchtigkeit und dunkle Wärme merkwürdige Organismen zum Tanzen bringen«. Er trifft die Zitronen, die Ärzte, die Hosen, die Neubauten – und sucht seinen eigenen Platz in dieser Welt. Als Erstes braucht er einen neuen Namen: Rocko Schamoni.

Pudels Kern reißt uns zurück in die Jahre des Punk, in die Kellernächte, den kaputten Tourbus und bis zum großen Plattenvertrag. Zu den Hoffnungen und Abstürzen. Er ist das glühende Porträt des Künstlers als junger Mann: »Nichts hat mehr Bedeutung, alles fließt, wir sind Quallen der Liebe.«
