Summary

Daisy Forest knows a ghost when she sees one. True, she has never actually seen a ghost before, but she swears their transparency is a dead giveaway. Daisy, a volunteer tour guide at the historic Holly Hill Mansion, knows that Sophia Meade Long, the woman who once owned the mansion, has been dead since 1814. So, when a very transparent Sophia steps in front of Daisy’s little Prius one night and asks for her help, how could she refuse? Once again Daisy and her sister, Rose, find themselves up to their eyeballs in all sorts of shenanigans - chasing ghosts, holding séances, and searching for priceless Revere silver.

The sudden reappearance of their reprobate father, Dickie Forest, with a new and unlikely interest in the occult has them puzzled to say the least, and their mother, Angela, behaving at her eccentric best. What seems to be harmless fun takes a deadly turn when Daisy stumbles on the body of the mansion’s curator in the wine cellar, and Daisy is later attacked after a Gothic evening in the mansion. When the police seemed to be stumped, it’s up to Daisy and Rose, with the invaluable help of Angela, to calm the ghost and catch a killer.

good listen

I didn't realise this had paranormal activity in it but it didn't detract from the main story. it is not the first in the series but that doesn't matter as you pick the story up really quickly as I did. the book follows daisy and rose as they uncover the mystery of some long missing cutlery which someone is now looking for and killing over.

overall a great listen, which I enjoyed once I got into it

Treasure, ghosts and a mystery

This is the first book by this author that I have listened to or read but I quite enjoyed it. It was easy to follow along with so it didn't seem to matter that I joined the series with book three. I found the characters quirky enough that they were fun and of course don't forget the animals. There was a lot of characters so I did get lost a little bit keeping every one straight at the beginning but it didn't take long to get there. The mystery was good and the ghostly sightings was just enough to keep it interesting and not turn it into a sy-fy book, although there was a lot of use of the ouigja board.
Daisy is surprised to see a ghost on her way home but even more when the ghost keeps appearing, it's as if she's trying to tell her something or warn her. It is not until she turns up at her voluntarily job as a tour guild around a historic mansion that discovers what it could be. Daisy finds her boss dead in the wine cellar just before a book club turns up for a tour, it seem her boss had interrupted a burglar in the process of breaking in. The break ins at the old house isn't the only strange happens in Daisy and her sister Rose's life, there absent father has returned and wants something. Daisy and Rose fearing that who ever is breaking into the house is getting bolder and might target the previous owner of the house, an elderly friend of there aunts, so start investing using a wide range of methods from Ouija boards, to disguises, to following maps, to believing in ghosts. Can they work out who the killer is before anyone else is hurt or even worse killed.
The narrator was good and used a lot of emotion to tell the story from sounding board one moment to excited the next.

Ok

This is the first book in the series that I listen and you don't need the others to understand this one. What draw me in to this book was the ghost element, unfortunately we don't get much ghosts in the story. A pity. There is a mystery and there is a ghost yes, but it took a backseat so the drama in the sisters lives could be better explored. Hence why I didn't enjoy it so much.
The narration was ok, nothing much to say in the matter.
