Summary

Funny, moving and truthful...Quite.

Claudia Winkleman's warmth, humour, no-holds-barred attitude and smoky eye have made her the favourite broadcaster of millions and a much-loved household name.

In this, her first ever book, Claudia invites us all into her world. This is a memoir with a difference (owing to its lack of a plot - genuinely, how do people do that?) and Claudia shares her observations on topics such as the importance of melted cheese, why black coats are vital, how it's never okay to have sex with someone who has an opinion on your date outfit, how nurses are our most precious national treasure and why colourful clothing is only for the under 10s (if you're reading this sporting a bright red jumper and you're nine, great! If you're older, sorry).

This is a love letter to life: the real, sometimes messy kind. Quite celebrates friendship, the power of art, the highs and lows of parenting and of course how a good eyeliner can really save your life.

Heartfelt, wry and unmistakably Claudia, this book gets to the heart of what really matters.

Wonderful! Just listen to it - simple

I’m a big fan of Claudia. She’s very funny and unique. Love her advice, agreed with all of it especially the lemon curd but definitely not the cheese....

Listen to this immediately

I’ve never watched strictly (sorry) but this was recommended on the high low podcast. It’s been such a tonic and has made me laugh and indeed cry. Perfect for someone in lockdown alone. I’d love a salty marg with Claudia now, she is bloody wonderful. Some stuff to think about and some excellent advice. 10/10

Loved this

An unusual style of book but loved it. Love Claudias voice too and much prefer hearing autobiographies by the author. She’s hilarious, really loved this book :)

I just love Claudia, and I didn’t think I would!

Very funny, very frank, had to slow the speed down a bit though! Thank you for a great read!

Twinkle-y, but in a good way

I really enjoyed this book, and listening to the author read it herself. Not all authors have the presentation skills or the warmth and CW had both in spades. There will be an element of confirmation-bias. I quite like CW. If you don't, I can't imagine this is high up on your Must Read list.
Themes: family, girlfriends and friendships, the familiar, trusting yourself.
Not hard-hitting, no blindside by revelation of trauma. Tender and irreverent in good proportion. Recommended.

Funny, engaging, gorgeous, comforting read

If you love Claudia Winkleman, you'll love this. And I do love her. There's a bit at the end which I didn't expect where she answers questions from the public - that's my favourite bit actually, coz it's lovely to hear her talk naturally and off the cuff and so enthusiastically, not just reading from the book. But the book is gorgeous too - especially loved how she talks about art, I wasn't expecting it and it was so engaging and thoughtful and thought-provoking. Also I love just hearing her advice on everything else she talks about, I love switching between totally agreeing and totally disagreeing, it's like talking to a friend, and I've taken to wearing eyeliner more because of her. Loved it.
