Summary

All Jacob Goldman wanted was for his boyfriend to not take him for granted. His plans, however, only gained him an ex-boyfriend, a damaged classic car, a charge of bird murder, angry townsfolk, and a hot mechanic he wants nothing to do with. All he wants now is his car fixed and to not be run out of town by the angry townsfolk of Oleander for involuntary bird-slaughter. Falling for his annoying mechanic is no part of Jacob’s plan.

Levi Greene is tired of being alone. He’s also tired of pining for his best friend, a man who’s in love with someone else. Jacob Goldman, an uber-twink from South Florida, isn’t even close to being Levi’s type. Nevertheless, he’s uncontrollably drawn to Jacob, and it isn’t just the lure of fixing his damaged classic car. Jacob touches Levi in a way that makes him want more, even if Levi knows that more isn’t in the cards for either one of them.

Rebound is the story of two men giving up on hopeless relationships only to fall into each other’s arms, more or less, and find that they complete each other in a way no other man could. There is hate sex, a bird funeral, “special” baked goods, a redneck seder, and an accidental overabundance of flamingos. Jacob and Levi fight each other, but find they can’t fight the bond that forms between them or the love that will, despite all obstacles, have its own way. This novel is a sequel to Reunion, but features a new couple and can be listened to on its own.

Funny and hot

I find Lynn Van Dorn writing about twinks and Michael Ferraiuolo narrating those stories to be a magical combination and that is soo true here. Jacob's and Levi's story has laughs as well as plenty of heart and steam and the performance captures every laugh out loud funny moment as well as the small, lovely nuanced ones of the romance.

Fun enemies-to-lovers story, but with depth

Although Jacob appears in the first book, Reunion, I think this can be read/listened to as a standalone.
Jacob and Levi made a spirited pairing, with their arguments often turning into steamy encounters. Jacob starts out as a needy, but cold character, though when one factors in his family life, one gets a better understanding of why he is the way he is. Levi comes from a loving family. When both MCs get together, they pretty much can't stand each other, but the more they got together, the more layers between them are peeled off, especially with Jacob showing a dominant side to Levi's more submissive side.
Through the story, Jacob becomes more likeable and he and Levi find a balance in each other. Levi (and his family) act as a support system for Jacob, which gives him the courage to stand up to his family.

Michael Ferrauiolo provides a an entertaining accompaniment to the story - to be honest, he is the main reason I enjoyed the story! A very good way to enjoy this book.

An unexpected challenge

Story: After reading Reunion I did not expect Rebound to be such a challenge. I rarely come across books where I struggle to like one of the MCs, yet am mesmerised with the story and cant see myself not finishing it. I am so happy I held onto it, because the uber - complicated mess of a personality that was Jacob proved to be one of the strongest points of the book! I loved all his background and how the author shaped his personality around all his experiences. And how Oleander changed his life!
Levi and his family were a hillarious mess of great characters and the story itself was really good!
Lynn Van Dorn did a great job in the character development area with this one. A really good and unique book
Narration: Great voice and very good performance. Just right for the story!

Fantastic, emotional, and super steamy

Jacob and Levi threw all my stereotypes about gay romance out the window, and I love them so much for it. Though this story does have some overlap with the first book in this series, I thought it worked really nicely as a standalone. Understanding what led Jacob to dramatically crash into Oleander and try to win Brett back changed everything I thought I knew about him, and from then on it was easy to get swept away in the delightfully quirky nature of his and Levi's story. Michael Ferraiuolo's performance was as fantastic as always, and his spot-on interpretation of these characters reminded me why he's one of my all-time favorite narrators.

For a man who appeared icy cold at first, there was a lot more to Jacob than met the eye. Even the tiny glimpses I got into his family life were enough to make me horrified about what he must have endured growing up. Jacob's frustration, bitterness, and anger made a lot more sense when I understood the constant pressure he was under, and though I didn't like how he lashed out at people I also understood why it was his default response. Levi never seemed to react the way Jacob thought he would, and it was fun to see their heated spats turn into steamy bliss. I honestly don't know when their hate-sex turned into something more, but somewhere between driving Levi out of his mind with bliss and cuddling all night long, Jacob started bringing down his walls. He and Levi spent a long time pretending their nights together were nothing more than physical, but it was easy for me to see that these two were developing real feelings for each other. As if that wasn't heartwarming enough, the way Levi's family so easily opened their arms to Jacob to give him the family love he'd always craved made me melt into a puddle of happiness.

Levi was an easy man for me to love, but what I adored more than expected was his quirky, dare-I-say-crazy extended family. That scene where Jacob met them all for the first time was hands-down hilarious, and the only thing that made it better was how cute and worried Levi got about scaring Jacob away. Their continued appearance throughout the rest of the story was guaranteed to make me smile, and when Jacob and Levi's dad went on their flamingo mission I couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous their connections turned out to be. I've never appreciated a cast of side-characters more, because they made a great romance into an all-around fantastically entertaining story.

For as engaging and lively as the overall story was, Levi and Jacob's romance was just as intensely steamy. Even when they were practically strangers they set the sheets on fire, and once Jacob figured out what really got Levi going, all bets were off. Lynn Van Dorn spoiled me with tons of deliciously possessive, rough, sweaty encounters between Jacob and Levi, and I could have happily devoured several more. The connection these men had was incredibly deep, and by the time I'd realized that all those steamy nights were setting up for an even more epic love they were already taking those next steps. I knew Levi would be the first one to confess his love, but that didn't make me squee any less when he said the words out loud. More than saying it, Levi's actions, his unwavering support and unconditional acceptance of Jacob proved to me that he was fully committed. Jacob took longer to come around, mainly because he never learned what real love felt like, but even without the words I could sense his deep devotion to his partner.

As if all of that wasn't enough to make this story amazing, Jacob and Levi packed a powerful emotional punch right at the end when they stood up to Jacob's family. I suspected there would be some confrontation before Jacob could freely stay with Levi, but I was so proud of Jacob for being brave instead of caving to the pressure. It didn't hurt that he had Levi and all of his family to back him up, but seeing Jacob make that call, speak his truth, and finally draw the line was what reduced me to happy tears. After getting past that, it finally felt like Jacob and Levi were in the clear to live their happiest lives together, and I'm so thrilled that I got to see a little piece of the future before their story ended for good.
